On the morning of February 25, the Institute of Marxism Studies (Marxyanyanjiuyuan; referred to as "Mayanyuan") convened a general assembly of all personnel. Entrusted by the Bureau of Personnel and Education, Party Committee Secretary Hou Huiqin announced that Comrade Zhao Zhikui would no longer serve as the Director of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism due to his age. The work of the department will be temporarily overseen by Deputy Director Comrade Jin Minqing.

On April 23, the "Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Forum—International Academic Symposium on the 20th Anniversary of the Disintegration of the Soviet Union," hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and jointly organized by twelve units including the CASS World Socialism Research Center and the Institute of Marxism Studies, was held in Beijing. More than 200 scholars from Russia, Vietnam, Ukraine, the United States, Germany, Bulgaria, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Japan, and China attended the meeting. Wang Weiguang, Executive Vice President of CASS, delivered an address. Li Shenming, Vice President of CASS and Director of the World Socialism Research Center; Yu Hongjun, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee; and Zhang Quanjing, former Minister of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the symposium and delivered speeches. Participating scholars engaged in in-depth discussions on issues such as "the causes of the disintegration of the Soviet Union," "the consequences of the disintegration of the Soviet Union," and "the prospects for the world socialist movement." Reporters and editors from media outlets including Xinhua News Agency, People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, Global Times, China Youth Daily, Chinese Social Sciences Today, Social Sciences Weekly, Beijing Daily, Frontline magazine, CCTV Russian Channel, China News Service, People.cn, the CASS website, and the Social Sciences website, as well as representatives from the embassies of Russia, Vietnam, Mongolia, Croatia, and Kyrgyzstan in China, attended the symposium. Cheng Enfu, Deputy Director of the World Socialism Research Center and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies, presided over the meeting.

From April 24 to 25, the International Marxism Sub-Forum of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Forum, hosted by CASS and organized by the Division of Marxist Studies and the Institute of Marxism Studies, was held in Beijing with the theme "Reconstruction of Global Order and Innovation of International Thought." During this period, the first enlarged meeting of the Editorial Board of the English quarterly International Critical Thought was also held. Li Shenming, Vice President of CASS, delivered an address. Cheng Enfu, Director of the Division of Marxist Studies and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies, presided over the morning plenary session, and Li Chongfu, a Member of the Academia Sinica [1], presided over the afternoon plenary session. More than 20 domestic and foreign experts and scholars from China, the United States, Russia, Germany, Canada, Australia, and Bulgaria delivered speeches, and approximately 100 people attended the symposium.

From April 24 to 26, the Second China-Vietnam Marxism Forum was held in Haiphong, Vietnam, with the theme "On the Issue of Development Models for Socialism." The forum was hosted by the Institute of Philosophy of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. Approximately 60 people attended the meeting, including Hou Huiqin, Party Committee Secretary of the Institute of Marxism Studies; Tran Duc Cuong, former Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Duong Phu Hiep, former Secretary-General of the Theoretical Council of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam; Pham Van Duc, Director of the Institute of Philosophy of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Tran Dinh Thien, Director of the Institute of Economics; Thanh Hau, member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Khamphauh [2], member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of the Academy of Social Sciences; as well as leaders and scholars from CASS, the Central Party School, the General Administration of Press and Publication, and the Strategic Research Center of the China Foundation for International Studies.

On June 20, the CASS Theoretical Symposium Commemorating the 90th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing. The meeting was organized by the CASS Division of Marxist Studies, the Institute of Marxism Studies, the Research Center for the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, and the Bureau of Scientific Research Management. Wu Yin, Vice President and Member of the CASS Leading Party Group, presided over the meeting. Wang Weiguang, Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Group and Executive Vice President; Zhu Jiamu and Li Yang, Vice Presidents and Members of the Leading Party Group; and personnel from various CASS units and related institutions attended the assembly. On behalf of Chen Kuiyuan, Secretary of the Leading Party Group and President of CASS, Wang Weiguang presented appointment letters to the newly appointed consultants and specially invited researchers of the Institute of Marxism Studies. Wang Weiguang delivered a speech titled "The Great Victory of Marxism in China." Renowned scholars including Zhu Jiamu, Li Chongfu, Xu Chongwen, Fang Ning, Yin Yungong, and Liu Guoxin summarized our Party's 90-year journey, experience, development prospects, and challenges from different perspectives, exploring major theoretical and practical issues for continuing to advance the cause of the Party and the country from a new historical starting point.

On September 7, the "First China-Japan Socialist Scholars Forum," jointly hosted by the Department of Sinicization of Marxism of the Institute of Marxism Studies and the Socialist Association of Japan, was held at CASS. The theme was "The Practice of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and Contemporary Realistic Issues in Japan." The forum was presided over by Jin Minqing, Deputy Director (Presiding) of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism. More than 30 people, including researchers from the department, experts and scholars from relevant institutions, and members of the press, attended the forum.

On the afternoon of September 23, Zhang Guanzi, Director of the CASS Bureau of Personnel and Education, and Guo Hong, Director of the Appointments and Removals Division, arrived at the Institute of Marxism Studies to announce that the CASS Leading Party Group had decided that Comrade Fan Jianxin would serve as the Deputy Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies.

On November 5–6, the "Fifth National Forum for Deans of Marxist Studies," jointly hosted by the CASS Division of Marxist Studies, the Institute of Marxism Studies, Henan University, and the Social Sciences in China Press, was held at Henan University. More than 80 people attended the forum, including Cheng Enfu, Director of the Division of Marxist Studies and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies; Wang Ling, Deputy Party Committee Secretary of Henan University; and leaders, experts, and scholars from more than 40 Marxism research and teaching institutions, including Peking University. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on the theme of "The 90th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China and the Sinicization of Marxism," focusing on the study and implementation of the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee.

On November 29, Wang Weiguang, Deputy Secretary of the CASS Leading Party Group and Executive Vice President, visited the Institute of Marxism Studies to conduct a field survey on the study and implementation of the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee, the strengthening of Party building, and the strengthening of Marxist theoretical research and disciplinary development. In his speech, Wang Weiguang affirmed the work of the Institute of Marxism Studies in 2011 and put forward requirements for its future work. Hou Huiqin, Party Committee Secretary of the Institute of Marxism Studies, presided over the survey meeting and reported on the overall situation regarding the study and implementation of the spirit of the Sixth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee. Shi He’an, Director of the General Office; Chaoke, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Scientific Research Management; Qian Wei, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Personnel and Education; and Yan Kun, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Organs Directly Under CASS, accompanied the survey. Zhang Zuying and Fan Jianxin, Deputy Directors of the Institute of Marxism Studies, along with the secretaries of various Party branches, directors and deputy directors of research departments, and heads of functional divisions, attended the survey meeting.
