The Year 2005
On May 19, the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee approved the reorganization of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), building upon the foundation of the original Institute of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought. On the morning of December 26, coinciding with the 112th anniversary of Comrade Mao Zedong’s birth, the inauguration ceremony of the Institute of Marxism Studies (hereinafter referred to as the Academy of Marxism) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences was held with great solemnity at the CASS CASS Hall. Liu Yunshan, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, member of the Secretariat, and head of the Central Publicity Department [1], attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The meeting was presided over by Chen Kuiyuan, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and President of CASS. More than 400 people attended, including leaders from relevant central and state organs and CASS, responsible comrades from various universities and scientific research institutes in Beijing, renowned experts and scholars engaged in Marxist theoretical research in China, and heads and representatives of various departments and bureaus of CASS. More than ten units, including the School of Marxism at Renmin University of China, sent congratulatory letters and telegrams.
On the afternoon of December 26, Leng Rong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice President of CASS (ministerial rank) [2] concurrently serving as the President of the Academy of Marxism, presided over an administrative meeting of the Academy of Marxism. Leadership from the Academy of Marxism attended, including Executive Vice President Cheng Enfu [3], Party Committee Secretary and Vice President Wu Enyuan, Vice President Hou Huiqin, and Vice President Zhuang Qiansheng. The main agenda of the meeting included: first, researching and determining the candidates for the directors and deputy directors of the five research departments of the Academy of Marxism; second, researching the division of labor among the leadership team of the Academy of Marxism; and third, researching the short-term work of the Academy of Marxism. President Leng Rong delivered guiding remarks on the research direction and work priorities of the Academy of Marxism. Executive Vice President Cheng Enfu spoke on specific proposals for the various tasks of the Academy of Marxism for 2006.
On the morning of December 27, the Academy of Marxism held its first plenary meeting following its establishment. Wu Enyuan, Party Committee Secretary and Vice President, presided over the meeting. Executive Vice President Cheng Enfu delivered a speech on the vision and prospects for the future work of the Academy of Marxism. Vice Presidents Hou Huiqin and Zhuang Qiansheng, among other leaders, put forward their respective proposals for the future work of the Academy of Marxism.
