On May 22, the Institute of Marxism Studies (CASS) held a meeting for cadres at the division level ^[1] and above. Leadership from the Bureau of Personnel and Education announced that Comrade Zhang Zuying was removed from the post of Vice President of the Institute of Marxism Studies. In May, the Bureau of Personnel and Education approved the roster for the Institute’s new Professional and Technical Qualification Review Committee (Associate Senior Level): Deng Chundong, Fan Jianxin, Hu Leming, Xin Xiangyang, Cheng Enfu, Lü Weizhou, Jin Minqing, Feng Yanli, Wei Lili, Jiang Hui, and Wu Li, with Deng Chundong serving as Director.

On September 4, the "Third Sino-Japanese Socialist Scholars Forum," co-sponsored by the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Socialism Association of Japan, was held in Beijing. Deng Chundong, President and Party Committee Secretary of the Institute of Marxism Studies, delivered the opening speech. Jin Minqing, Deputy Director of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism at the Institute, and Sato Reiji, head of the delegation from the Socialism Association of Japan, delivered keynote reports. More than 40 experts and scholars from the Institute and the Socialism Association of Japan attended the meeting.

From September 28 to October 2, the "First Sino-Russian Development Forum"—co-sponsored by the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Economics of Moscow State University, the Russian Center for Institutional Innovation, and St. Petersburg State Agrarian University—was held in St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia. The theme of the conference was "New Challenges Facing China and Russia Jointly in the Context of Globalization."

From October 19 to 27, the "First European Forum on the China Path"—co-sponsored by the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the German-Chinese Association (GCA), and the Party of Italian Communists—was held in Berlin, Germany, and Rome, Italy. The theme of the conference was "The China Path: Connotation, Experience, and Future Directions."

On November 15, the first "Forum on the Theory and Practice of Ruling Party Building," sponsored by the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, was held in Guilin, Guangxi. The theme of the conference was "General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Thought on Party Building and Contemporary Chinese Party Building Practice."

From November 26 to 27, the "Second International Forum on Socialism"—co-sponsored by the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, and the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences—was held in Vientiane, Laos. The theme of the conference was "Building a Society of Solidarity and Consensus Under Socialist Conditions."

From November 29 to 30, the "Seventh National Forum for Deans of Marxist Academies"—co-sponsored by the CASS Division of Marxist Studies, the Institute of Marxism Studies, Yunnan Agricultural University, and Guangxi Normal University Press Group Co., Ltd.—was held in Kunming, Yunnan. The theme of the conference was "Marxism and China’s Comprehensively Deepening Reform."

On the afternoon of December 29, the Institute of Marxism Studies held a meeting for cadres at the middle-level and above. Jing Huimin, member of the CASS Leading Party Members’ Group and Director of the Institute of Contemporary China, announced cadre appointments on behalf of the CASS Party Group: Comrade Hu Leming was transferred to the Bureau of International Cooperation to serve as Deputy Director and was removed from his post as Director of the Department of the Principles of Marxism; Comrade Jia Chaoning was appointed Vice President of the Institute of Marxism Studies; Comrade Jin Minqing was appointed Director of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism (Deputy Bureau Level ^[2]); Comrade Xin Xiangyang was appointed Director of the Department of Marxist Development (Deputy Bureau Level); Comrade Lü Weizhou was appointed Director of the Department of the International Communist Movement (Deputy Bureau Level); Comrade Feng Yanli was appointed Director of the Department of Foreign Marxist Studies (Deputy Bureau Level); and Comrade Yu Bin was appointed Director of the Department of the Principles of Marxism (Deputy Bureau Level).
