In February, during the Spring Festival, in implementation of the tasks assigned by the Central Propaganda Department ^[1], several scholars from the Institute of Marxism Studies (Academy of Marxism) participated in the revision of the "Brief History of the Communist Party of China," a study material for the Party History Learning and Education ^[2] campaign. On the morning of March 31, the Institute of Marxism Studies held a general meeting of all personnel. Jiang Hui, Member of the Party Leadership Group of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Director of the Institute of Contemporary China, and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies, representing the Party Leadership Group of the Academy, announced the decision on cadre appointment and removal: Comrade Yu Junxiao was appointed Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission and Deputy Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies. Cui Jianmin, Deputy Director (Director-General level, presiding over work) of the Personnel and Education Bureau of CASS, and all faculty and staff of the Institute of Marxism Studies attended the meeting. On the morning of June 9, Jiang Hui visited the Institute of Marxism Studies to conduct research and investigation on its work. On June 17, the representative team from the Institute of Marxism Studies participated in the "Always Follow the Party—CASS Red Classics Recitation Event Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China," winning the first prize with the highest score in the entire Academy.

On July 16, the book launch and international seminar for "Jointly Witnessing the Century-Old Great Party: Narratives of One Hundred Foreign Communists" was jointly hosted by the Institute of Marxism Studies, the Bureau of International Cooperation, the World Socialism Research Center, and the Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era (all under CASS). On December 12, the Special Symposium of the National Forum for Deans of Marxism Schools was held in Beijing and Fuzhou, with the theme "The Century of Brilliance of the Communist Party of China and Chinese-path Modernization." This forum was hosted by the Institute of Marxism Studies of CASS and Fujian Normal University, and organized by the School of Marxism of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the School of Marxism of Fujian Normal University. It was co-organized by the journals Marxism Studies (Makesizhuyi yanjiu), World Socialism Studies (Shijie shehuizhuyi yanjiu), and Theory and Criticism (Lilun yu pinglun), using a combination of online and offline methods. Jiang Hui, Vice President and Member of the Party Leadership Group of CASS, Director of the Institute of Contemporary China, and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies; Liu Weize, Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee; Lin Weifen, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairperson of the Fujian Provincial Federation of Social Sciences; Pan Yuteng, Secretary of the Party Committee of Fujian Normal University; and Liu Xiaoxin, Vice President of the Fujian Academy of Social Sciences, attended the opening ceremony. Jiang Hui, Liu Weize, and Pan Yuteng delivered speeches. The opening ceremony was presided over by Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies of CASS, and Dean of the School of Marxism of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. More than 200 experts and scholars from nearly 100 universities and research institutes nationwide, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, CASS, Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, and Nankai University, as well as representatives from important academic journals such as Marxism Studies, World Socialism Studies, Southeast Academic, Fujian Forum, and the Journal of Fujian Normal University, attended the conference.

On December 20, the 8th "International Forum on Socialism," hosted by CASS, the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences, and the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, was held simultaneously in Beijing, Vientiane, and Hanoi via video conference. The theme of the forum was "Coordinated Economic and Social Development in Socialist Construction in the New Era." More than 40 experts and scholars from China, Laos, and Vietnam conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as "economic development and cultural development," "economic growth and the improvement of people's lives," and "economic growth and social harmony." The forum was organized by the Laotian side, while the Institute of Marxism Studies of CASS was responsible for the organization of the Beijing sub-forum. Sonethanou Thammavong, President of the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences; Jiang Hui, Vice President of CASS; and Dang Xuan Thanh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. Kikeo Chanthaboury, Vice President of the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences, provided the concluding summary of the meeting.

On December 21, the 12th World Socialism Forum, hosted by CASS, was held in Beijing. The theme of the forum was "Upholding Fundamentals and Breaking New Ground in 21st-Century Marxism," organized by the World Socialism Research Center, the Institute of Marxism Studies, the Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and the Bureau of International Cooperation of CASS. Gao Xiang, Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of CASS, and President and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Chinese Academy of History; Guo Yezhou, Vice Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee; and Carlos Miguel Pereira, Cuban Ambassador to China, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Jiang Hui attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote report. Li Shenming, former Vice President of CASS and Director of the World Socialism Research Center, and Li Wentang, Member of the School Board and Director of the Department of Literature and History of the Central Party School (National Academy of Governance), among others, gave plenary speeches. Zhang Quanjing, former head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, sent a written congratulatory message; Chen Li, Director of the Academic and Editorial Committee of the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, sent a written statement; and Li Zhihui, Deputy Director of the Bureau of External Promotion of the Central Propaganda Department, attended the meeting. Experts and scholars from Russia, Britain, Germany, Cuba, Vietnam, Argentina, Venezuela, Cameroon, and other countries, as well as experts and scholars from the Central Propaganda Department, the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, the Central Party School (National Academy of Governance), Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, and comrades from relevant departments of CASS, participated in the meeting. Xin Xiangyang presided over the meeting, and Lin Jianhua, Deputy Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies, provided the summary.

In December, the first (and 2020 annual) "CASS Excellent Articles on Marxist Theory Publicity" selected 50 "Excellent Articles." According to the decision of the Academy leadership, a selection of "Excellent Articles" from the previous year will be organized annually hereafter. The specific organizational work is the responsibility of the CASS Office of the Ideological and Theoretical Writing Group (located within the Institute of Marxism Studies).
