In early March, on the occasion of the 113th International Women’s Day and the 100th Women’s Day in China, the Working Committee for Women of the Departments under the CPC Central Committee and State Organs issued a commendation notice for the "March 8th Red Banner Pacesetters (Collectives) of the Central and State Organs." The Working Committee for Women of the Institute of Marxism Studies (IMS) was honored with the 2023 title of "March 8th Red Banner Collective of the Central and State Organs" ^[1]. On April 14, Gao Xiang, President and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), conducted a research visit to the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era Library, the Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and the National Social Sciences Documentation Center. Xin Xiangyang and Gong Yun reported on the work of the Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. On the morning of May 10, the IMS held a general staff meeting. Zhen Zhanmin, Vice President and Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group of CASS, announced the personnel appointment decision on behalf of the Academy’s Leading Party Members’ Group: Comrade Xin Xiangyang was appointed Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies. Zhao Rui, Director of the CASS Bureau of Personnel and Education, attended the meeting, and IMS Vice Director Gong Yun presided. In July, following its inclusion in the 2021 CSSCI ^[2] Extended Edition Source Journal Catalog and its consecutive selection as an Important Reprinted Source Journal for the Renmin University of China (RUC) Photocopying Newspaper and Periodical Materials in 2022, the journal World Socialism Studies (Shijie Shehuizhuyi Yanjiu) was selected for the AMI ^[3] Comprehensive Evaluation Core Journals for Chinese Humanities and Social Sciences and as a CSSCI Source Journal. On the morning of September 27, the IMS held a general staff meeting. Zhen Zhanmin, Vice President and Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group of CASS, announced the personnel appointment decision on behalf of the Academy’s Leading Party Members’ Group: Comrade Chen Zhigang was appointed Vice Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies. Ke Wenjun, Deputy Director of the CASS Bureau of Personnel and Education, presided over the meeting, which was attended by all cadres and staff of the IMS.

On November 4, the "10th International Forum on Socialism" was held in Guilin, Guangxi. The forum was co-hosted by the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences (LASES), and Guangxi Normal University. It was co-organized by the Department of International Communist Movement Studies of the IMS, the School of Marxism at Guangxi Normal University, and the Research Center for Marxist Theory and Regional Practice, a key humanities and social science research base for universities in Guangxi. The theme of the forum was "Socialist Modernization: Theory and Practice." Over one hundred experts and scholars from China, Vietnam, and Laos conducted in-depth discussions on topics such as "Marxism and Modernization Theory," "Chinese-path modernization and the World Socialist Movement," and "General Laws of Modernization and the Universal Laws of Socialist Modernization." Zhen Zhanmin, Vice President and Member of the Leading Party Members’ Group of CASS, delivered written remarks. Xie Mingjun, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, and Khamlahy Keobounphanh, Vice President of the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences, also delivered remarks. Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the IMS, presided over the opening ceremony.

From November 28 to 29, the "13th World Socialism Forum" was held in Beijing, hosted by CASS and co-organized by the CASS World Socialism Research Center, the Institute of Marxism Studies, the Institute of Bilateral Urban and Information Studies, the Bureau of International Cooperation, and the Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The theme was "Building a community with a shared future for humanity and the Development of World Socialism." More than 180 leaders of Communist parties, left-wing scholars, and social activists from 37 countries across six continents, along with domestic experts and scholars, attended the meeting. Gao Xiang, President and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of CASS, delivered the keynote speech. Guo Yezhou, Vice Minister of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee; Li Shenming, former Vice President of CASS and Director of the World Socialism Research Center; José Luis Centella, President of the Communist Party of Spain and Vice President of the Party of the European Left; and Yuri Tavrovsky, Vice Chairman of the Russia-China Friendship Association and Chairman of the Expert Committee of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and Development, delivered keynote speeches. The opening ceremony was presided over by Wang Changlin, Vice President of CASS, and the plenary speech sessions were presided over by Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the CASS IMS, among others.

In November, the Bureau of Personnel and Education approved the list of members for the IMS Professional and Technical Qualification Review Committee (Associate Senior Level): Yu Haiqing, Wang Chuanli, Ren Jie, Liu Zhiming, Sun Laibin, Li Jianguo, Yang Jing, Yu Bin, Xin Xiangyang, Chen Zhigang, Lin Jianhua, He Xinyuan, Qin Xuan, Pan Jin'e, Dai Lixing, with Xin Xiangyang as Director. (In the 2024 adjustment, Luo Wendong was added as a member; in the 2025 adjustment, Cui Weihang was added as a member and Director).

On December 9-10, the "15th National Forum of Deans of Marxism" was held in Tianjin, co-hosted by the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, Nankai University, and the Nankai University-CASS 21st Century Marxism Research Institute. The theme was "Marxism and Chinese-path modernization." Wang Weiguang, Director of the National Committee of the 13th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) for Ethnic and Religious Affairs, Director of the Nankai University-CASS 21st Century Marxism Research Institute, and Lifetime Professor at Nankai University, and Li Yi, Vice President of the Central Party School of the CPC (National Academy of Governance), attended the opening ceremony and delivered keynote reports. Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the CASS IMS; Xu Zhong, Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee; and Chen Yulu, President of Nankai University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered remarks. Niu Wenli, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Nankai University, presided over the ceremony. Representatives from nearly one hundred universities nationwide—including CASS, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Wuhan University, Fudan University, Jilin University, Shandong University, Lanzhou University, Zhejiang University, Sichuan University, and Nankai University—as well as representatives from academic journals and publishing houses such as Marxist Studies (Makesizhuyi Yanjiu), Teaching and Research (Jiaoxue yu Yanjiu), World Socialism Studies (Shijie Shehuizhuyi Yanjiu), and Marxism Teaching and Research (Makesizhuyi Jiaoxue yu Yanjiu), participated in the forum.
