Briefing on the Theme Day Activity of the Foreign Affairs Department Party Branch, Academy of Marxism
In order to continuously strengthen and advance the development of primary-level Party organizations, enhance the cohesion and combat effectiveness of the Party branch, improve the Party spirit and spiritual realm of the broad membership, and firm up the common ideal of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Party branch of the Department of International Studies at the Institute of Marxism Studies (IMS) [1] within the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) held a thematic Party Day activity [2] titled "Revisiting the Communist Manifesto" on April 9, 2015. The primary locations for this activity were the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau [3].
On the 9th, Beijing was bathed in brilliant sunshine and the warmth of spring blossoms. All Party members of the IMS Department of International Studies first convened a branch meeting in the office of Director Feng Yanli. During the meeting, Director Feng made systematic arrangements regarding the construction and activities of the Party branch. Simultaneously, the branch successfully conducted its leadership reelection work. Following the conclusion of the morning meeting, the collective membership proceeded to the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau to revisit the Communist Manifesto.
The Central Compilation and Translation Bureau was hosting a major exhibition: "The Journey of Ideas: Marxism in China – A Century of Dissemination." Under the leadership of Party Branch Secretary Feng Yanli, all members of the international studies branch conducted a careful tour of this extensive exhibition. Ji Zhengju, Director of the Marxism Research Department of the CPC Central Compilation and Translation Bureau, arranged for specialized personnel to provide a guided commentary. For over a century, the Communist Manifesto has moved from publication in a single language to dozens of languages, and from clandestine circulation in a single country to wide dissemination across the globe. From driving the liberation movement of the working class itself to influencing shifts in the worldwide political, economic, cultural, and social landscape, the Communist Manifesto has consistently propelled the great transformation of human history through its immense theoretical power, intellectual acuity, and militant spirit. Revisiting the Communist Manifesto and understanding its history of dissemination throughout the world and China helps us more profoundly comprehend its deep connotations and spiritual force. During the visit, the Party members viewed various editions and translations of the Communist Manifesto, gaining a deep sense of the difficulties involved in its dissemination and a profound grasp of the power of theory and its massive influence on revolutionary practice. Participants expressed their commitment to continuously learning, researching, and propagating the Communist Manifesto and Marxism with a more proactive attitude and more earnest spirit, and to carrying forward the revolutionary, scientific, and innovative spirit of Marxism to make greater contributions to the cause of Marxist research in China.
