International Forum on "Scientific Development and Human Progress in the 21st Century" Held in Shanghai

The international symposium "Development of Science and Technology and Human Progress in the 21st Century" was held at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics from September 28 to 29, 2013. The forum was co-sponsored by the Center for Economic and Social Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) (under the administration of the Institute of Marxism Studies), the Institute of Marxism Studies at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and the Center for Transformational Science Research at the Autonomous University of Mexico City. More than 50 scholars from the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Mexico, Norway, and numerous prestigious domestic universities and scientific research institutions attended the meeting.

Professor Cheng Enfu, Director of the Academy Division of Marxist Studies at CASS and Director of the Center for Economic and Social Development, delivered the opening remarks and gave a keynote speech titled "The Chinese Dream ^[1] and China’s Institutional Model." Scholars from various countries engaged in in-depth discussions primarily focused on three areas: the relationship between technological progress and economic development, technological progress and democratic politics, and technological progress and international politics.
