National Seminar on "Historical Materialism and the Path to National Rejuvenation" Held in Guiyang
On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the death of Karl Marx and the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mao Zedong, and in order to study and implement the spirit of the 18th National Congress [1] of the Party, the National Symposium on "Historical Materialism and the Path of National Rejuvenation" was held in Guiyang, Guizhou Province, from July 13 to 15, 2013. The symposium was hosted by the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism (affiliated with the Institute of Marxism Studies) and Guizhou University, and organized by the College of Liberal Arts of Guizhou University. Nearly one hundred experts and scholars from universities, research institutions, and Party schools across the country—including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Central Literature Research Office [2], Peking University, Renmin University of China, and the National Defense University—attended the symposium. The conference received more than 360 papers, of which over 80 were selected for inclusion. The opening ceremony was chaired by Feng Xiaolun, Executive Vice President of Guizhou University. Professor Yao Xiaoquan, Party Committee Secretary of Guizhou University, delivered the welcoming speech. Researcher Li Chongfu, President of the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism and Member of the CASS Academic Division, delivered the opening address. Keynote reports were delivered respectively by Professor Hou Huiqin, Executive Vice President of the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism and Director of the CASS Center for State Cultural Security and Ideology, and Professor Xu Zhigong, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism and former Vice President of the National Defense University. Centering on the theme of the conference, participating scholars engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges regarding "the deep interpretation of the connotation of the 'Chinese Dream' of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," "the systematic elucidation of the path, theoretical system, and system of socialism with Chinese characteristics," and "the theoretical contributions and historical achievements of Mao Zedong in initiating the Sinicization of Marxism."
