The 5th Session of the "Social Perspectives - Marxist Viewpoints" Young Scholars Salon Held in Beijing

News & Updates

The fifth session of the "Social Perspectives—Marxist Perspectives" Youth Academic Salon, jointly organized by the Institute of Marxism Studies and the Institute of Sociology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), was held on June 9 in the Qinan (Qicheju Nanli) community of the Yuetan subdistrict in Xicheng District, Beijing. The theme of the session was "Improving Social Governance: Adhering to the Valuative Orientation of Equality and Justice." More than twenty young scholars from the Institute of Marxism Studies and the Institute of Sociology engaged in in-depth discussions with Qinan community staff and volunteers on issues including community governance under the concept of a "nursing home without walls" [1], public services, and family-based elder care. This salon adopted an activity format of "leaving the study for face-to-face exchange." Through interactive interviews with community social workers and others, the participants advanced their theoretical reflections on "community governance and elder care services." The content of the activity was substantial and vivid, the interactions were rich and diverse, and the research and symposium process was highly recognized by all participants.

Following extensive and in-depth exchanges with community staff and volunteers, the young scholars generally agreed that the "Qinan Community Construction Association," as a representative community organization, involves key areas in the field of community organization research both for the present and for some time to come. These include multi-layered issues such as home-based elder care, volunteer services, and primary-level Party building [2]. These fields have been the focus of the Party and the government in recent years and are major issues concerning the better and faster development of the Party, the state, and the Chinese nation. The explorations of the "Qinan Community Construction Association" and the "nursing home without walls" over the past decade, along with the highly effective experiences summarized for each issue, are worthy of analysis and emulation. Such engagement allows research to stand at the forefront of theory and practice, thereby providing the Party and the state with the most fundamental, authentic, and effective developmental recommendations.

Eighteen young scholars from the Institute of Marxism Studies participated in this salon activity.
