Second Quarter Activities of Academy of Marxism Leadership and Members of the Academic Division of Marxist Studies
☆ Deng Chundong: On April 1, convened a general assembly for all personnel of the Institute of Marxism Studies (IMS) to convey the spirit of Central Committee documents [1]; signed contracts with chief experts of the Innovation Project [2]. Held a symposium with the President of Zhejiang People’s Publishing House and others to discuss relevant work matters. On April 12, participated in the First Mao Zedong Thought Forum, co-hosted by the IMS and the Institute of Contemporary China, and delivered the opening remarks. On April 16, at the Miyun Training Center, delivered a tutorial report for the training class of division-level leading cadres of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) on studying and implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important speeches. From April 21 to 22, traveled to Zhejiang to participate in a research and investigation [3] meeting. On April 23, met with Hu Chidi, Deputy Director of the Ningbo Education Bureau, and his delegation to discuss project cooperation and other matters. On May 26, at the invitation of the Publicity Department of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee [4], gave a specialized report on "Cultivating Socialist Core Values." On May 28, participated in a symposium convened by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee in Beijing and delivered a speech. From June 9 to 11, at the invitation of the Publicity Department of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, attended the Academic Seminar on Socialist Core Values jointly organized by the Guizhou Provincial Publicity Department and the People’s Daily, and delivered a speech. On June 11, according to the instructions of CASS leadership, gave a specialized tutorial report on studying and implementing the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important speeches for the cadres and staff of the Secretariat Bureau of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee. On June 24, discussed cooperation regarding the Marxism Digest with Comrade Wu Baorui, Director of the Information Center for Social Sciences at Renmin University of China.
☆ Fan Jianxin: From April 8 to 12, participated in the anti-corruption and clean government construction [5] task force’s research and investigation trip to Shaanxi, led by Zhang Yingwei, head of the Discipline Inspection Group of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) stationed at CASS. On April 24, discussed cooperation on national cultural leadership [6] research with the Director of the Beijing Institute of Social and Cultural Development. On May 20, attended the CASS Maintenance of Stability [7] work meeting. In the afternoon, chaired the forum on "Studying General Secretary Xi Jinping’s Series of Important Speeches," jointly convened by the IMS, Zhejiang Publishing United Group, and Guangxi Normal University Press Group Co., Ltd. On June 8, chaired a seminar at the Hubei Hotel on the project for tracking trends in ideological and theoretical hot topics. On June 13, participated in the Fifth High-Level Forum on China’s Cultural Soft Power, jointly convened by the IMS, the China Cultural Soft Power Research Center, the Theory Department of the People’s Daily, the Theory Department of the Guangming Daily, and the Chinese Social Sciences Today. On June 18, attended the publication and distribution ceremony for the book Recollections of the Development Process of Chinese Philosophy and Social Sciences.
☆ Cheng Enfu: On April 1, participated in an interview with Danish National Television regarding China’s family planning issues. On April 4, at the Party School of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, gave a report interpreting the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s series of important speeches on reform and opening up. On April 10, met with the President of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and a Deputy Director-General from the Ministry of Finance. On April 22, met with Professor Michael Brie of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, Germany. On April 24, attended a meeting convened by the Beijing Association for Science and Technology and the Beijing Federation of Social Science Circles, and was appointed as a "Consultant to the Joint Meeting of the Two Circles." From April 27 to May 8, attended an international forum at the National Autonomous University of Mexico at their invitation and expense; gave a lecture on culture and ideology at the Cuban Philosophical Society (located at the University of Havana). From May 9 to 11, chaired the annual meeting of the National Society for the Study of Economic Laws and the Meeting of the President and Secretary-General at the Henan University of Economics and Law. From June 7 to 8, at the Jingxi Hotel, chaired the final review meeting for the Press and Publication Administration’s Publication Fund grants for books and audiovisual projects concerning the spirit of the Third Plenary Session [8]. On June 18, gave a report at the China Academy of Governance to the Mayors’ Class on the seven major current social trends of thought in our country [9].
☆ Li Chongfu: On May 16, participated in the work meeting on "Research on the Basic Viewpoints of the Works of Classical Marxist Authors" convened by the Central Compilation and Translation Bureau to discuss the publication of research results. On May 27, chaired the manuscript review meeting organized by the Secretariat of the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism for the 2014 Annual Academic Conference. On June 12, chaired the President’s Office Meeting of the Chinese Society of Historical Materialism to discuss preparatory matters for the Society’s Seventh National Congress and the election of new leadership. On June 18, invited to give a lecture at the School of Marxism, Central China Normal University. On June 19, invited to give a lecture at Huanggang Normal University. On the morning of June 20, invited to give a lecture at the School of Marxism, Wuhan University; in the afternoon, invited to give a lecture at Hubei University.
