Leadership Change at the Academy of Marxism
On the morning of August 1, 2013, the Institute of Marxism Studies (CASS) held a general staff meeting. Li Jie, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), attended the meeting to announce the following: according to the decision researched and determined by the CASS Executive Committee on June 20, 2013, Comrade Deng Chundong has been appointed Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies, and Comrade Cheng Enfu has been removed from the post of Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies.
Comrade Li Jie pointed out that Comrade Cheng Enfu is stepping down from his leadership position due to reaching the age limit [1]. Comrade Cheng Enfu was transferred to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in October 2005 to participate in the preparatory work for the establishment of the Institute of Marxism Studies, and subsequently served as Executive Deputy Director and Director; since the establishment of the Academy of Marxism [2], he has also continuously served as the Chair of the Academic Division. After nearly eight years of active pioneering and innovative development, the Institute of Marxism Studies has achieved great results in all aspects, becoming an important force in enabling the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to realize the Central Committee’s “Three Positionings” [3] requirements. Comrade Cheng Enfu performed his duties with complete dedication in his post and made significant contributions to the Institute of Marxism Studies.
Comrade Li Jie noted that Comrade Deng Chundong possesses high political quality and a strong sense of Party spirit, as well as a high degree of political acumen. He possesses a high theoretical level and professional quality; his work reflects clear thinking, strong execution, and a powerful capacity for pioneering and innovation. His professional resume is extensive, demonstrating strong leadership along with organizational and coordination capabilities. He is skilled at managing leadership bodies and building teams; in his work, he is able to earnestly implement democratic centralism [4], avoids "one-voice rule" [5], and serves as an excellent role model within the leadership collective. Taking into account the practical conditions of the Institute of Marxism Studies and Comrade Deng Chundong’s personal performance, the Executive Committee decided that Comrade Deng Chundong shall serve as Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies. It is hoped that Comrade Deng Chundong will make persistent efforts in the future to lead the Institute of Marxism Studies in successfully carrying out all aspects of its work.
Following the adjustment, Comrade Deng Chundong serves as the Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies; Comrade Cheng Enfu continues to serve as the Chair of the Academic Division of Marxism.
