Annual Work Meeting of the Periodical Network Center of the Academy of Marxism Held

On January 24, 2013, the annual work meeting of the Periodical and Network Center of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) was held. Professor Cheng Enfu, Director of the Department of Marxist Studies, Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies, and Director of the Periodical and Network Center, attended the meeting. The entire staff from six departments participated, including the editorial offices of Marxism Studies (Makesizhuyi Yanjiu), International Critical Thought (English version), Marxist Abstracts (Makesizhuyi Wenzhai), and the Yearbook of Marxist Theoretical Research and Disciplinary Construction (Makesizhuyi Lilun Yanjiu yu Xueke Jianshe Nianjian), as well as the Web Editorial Office and the Network Systems Office. The meeting was presided over by Zhai Shengming, Research Fellow, Deputy Director of the Periodical and Network Center, and Director of the Editorial Office of Marxism Studies.

The heads of each department within the Periodical and Network Center reported on their work progress for 2012 and the key points of their work plans for 2013. Zhai Shengming introduced the establishment of new columns in Marxism Studies in 2012, its editorial work, publication and distribution, social impact, and its participation in and hosting of national academic conferences, as well as the status of the "Pilot Application for Academic Journals under the Innovation Project [1] (Marxism Studies)." He requested that the editorial office overcome difficulties and work diligently in the new year to further improve the level of editing and proofreading. Zhai Shengming also introduced the editing and publication status of the 2012 Yearbook, expressing his hope that, with the cooperation of all departments within the Institute of Marxism Studies, the academic level and influence of the Yearbook would continue to improve. Wang Zhongbao, Deputy Director in charge of the Editorial Office of International Critical Thought (English), reported on the journal’s global publication, the refinement of editorial and review processes, the management of departmental and editorial affairs, and the magazine's external propaganda and solicitation of manuscripts over the past year, as well as plans for organizing manuscripts and establishing an online review platform in the coming year. Li Jianguo, Director of the Editorial Office of Abstracts, reported on the collaborative publication between the Institute of Marxism Studies and the Information Center for Social Sciences at Renmin University of China [2], the selection and editing of manuscripts, circulation figures, and social impact, as well as plans to further improve the quality of selected manuscripts. Tan Yangfang, Director of the Web Editorial Office, along with editors Jia Keqing, Wang Jiafei, and Zhang Jian, reported on the quantity, principles, and processes of manuscript selection for the Marxism Studies Website over the past year, as well as the selection status within their respective areas of responsibility. Zhong Hebin, representing He Chengzhong, Director of the Network Systems Office, reported on the office's work in computer network management, email account applications, troubleshooting, and equipment procurement over the past year.

In conclusion, Director Cheng Enfu provided a summary and outlined work requirements for the new year. Director Cheng pointed out that Marxism Studies, International Critical Thought, Marxist Abstracts, and the Marxism Studies Website are important domestic and international platforms for showcasing the results and dynamics of Marxist research; they also serve as vital fronts [3] for propagating Marxism and expanding its influence. The units under the Periodical and Network Center made active progress in various tasks over the past year: the column setup of Marxism Studies has become more scientific, and the quality of editing and proofreading has further improved; the international influence of International Critical Thought has risen rapidly, with increasingly refined management of editorial and departmental affairs; the academic rigor, vitality, and readability of Abstracts have been further manifested; the Yearbook has received positive feedback in academic circles following its publication and distribution; the Marxism Studies Website has enriched its columns and accelerated article updates after its redesign; and the Network Systems Office has provided better technical support for the researchers within the Institute. Director Cheng requested that in the new year, the Periodical and Network Center continue to work with one heart and mind, cooperate with one another, eliminate distractions, redouble their efforts, and continue to push all aspects of their work forward to achieve even greater results.
