The 4th "Sinicization of Marxism" Forum and Academic Seminar on "Mao Zedong and the Sinicization of Marxism" Held in Changchun
The year 2013 marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mao Zedong. To advance research on Mao Zedong Thought and the Sinicization of Marxism, the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the School of Marxism at Jilin University held the "Fourth Forum on the Sinicization of Marxism" on August 16 at Jilin University, under the theme "Mao Zedong and the Sinicization of Marxism." Li Jie, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, attended and delivered a speech; Chen Dewen, Party Committee Secretary of Jilin University, delivered the welcoming remarks; Deng Chundong, Party Committee Secretary and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered an address; Jin Minqing, head of the Department of the Sinicization of Marxism at the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, gave a keynote speech; and Han Xiping, Dean of the School of Marxism at Jilin University, presided over the meeting. Sixty experts and scholars from units including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Central Literature Research Management Office [1], the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC, Renmin University of China, Jilin University, and Capital University of Economics and Business participated in the meeting.
At the seminar, scholars engaged in heated discussions on topics such as the historical status of Mao Zedong, Mao Zedong's historical contributions to the Sinicization of Marxism, Mao Zedong's role in the opening of the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, how to evaluate the relationship between Mao Zedong Thought and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, how to evaluate the two historical periods [2] before and after reform and opening up, the historical process and basic experience of the Sinicization of Marxism, and foreign research on Mao Zedong.
