News & Updates

On October 14, 2016, Deng Chundong, President and Party Committee Secretary of the Institute of Marxism Studies [1], met in Florence, Italy, with Mauro Alboresi, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Italy (PC) [2], along with Alessandro Leoni, member of the Central Committee and the International Department, and Francesco Maringio, member of the Central Committee.

President Deng Chundong first extended his congratulations on the reorganization of the Communist Party of Italy and the successful election of Mauro Alboresi as General Secretary. President Deng stated that for many years, Italian communists have consistently maintained their faith in Marxism and their pursuit of socialist ideals, engaging in extraordinarily significant and arduous struggles to this end. This fighting spirit and these achievements, he noted, are worthy of the admiration and study of Chinese communists. Alboresi stated that the new Communist Party of Italy attaches great importance to inter-party exchanges with the Communist Party of China (CPC), particularly the "China Path" Europe Forum conducted through academic exchange; he sincerely hoped that the Party could foster closer cooperation and exchange with China.

Subsequently, Alessandro Leoni, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Italy, provided the attending Chinese scholars with a brief introduction to the history and current situation of the Italian Communist Party. Commissioner Leoni stated that the reorganization of the Party represents an important historical opportunity for development and innovation. The Party will actively commit itself to innovating the developmental concepts of the Party and the nation, striving to build the PC into a scientific party founded on belief. General Secretary Alboresi held that, after experiencing a historical phase of fragmented development, the Italian communists have arrived at the optimal moment for reorganization. The Party will combine the experience of the international communist movement—drawing particularly on China’s developmental experience—to focus on resolving issues of poverty and employment under the structural crisis of capitalism. At the same time, the PC will further strengthen cooperation with communist parties worldwide, specifically aiming to unite with communist parties in capitalist countries to jointly oppose the rule of global capitalism and the threat of "capital terrorism" [3] in order to confront the risk of potential wars. The PC will adhere to anti-war principles and seek regional and world peace.

Finally, both parties concluded the symposium in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Participants included Tang Zhouyan, Party Committee Secretary of the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences; Zhang Xinping, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at Lanzhou University; Ding Xiaoqiang, Dean of the School of Marxism at Shanghai Tongji University; Ji Yongchao, Vice President of the Anhui Academy of Social Sciences; Yao Xiaoling, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at Beihang University; and from the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, Lü Weizhou, Director of the Department of International Communist Movement, Associate Researcher Li Jianguo, and Associate Researcher Jing Xianghui from the Institute of Shi-Intelligence.
