On December 20, Dean and Party Secretary Deng Chundong attended and spoke at the China-Laos Theoretical Seminar in Laos | Marxism Research Network

On December 20, 2016, the Fifth Theoretical Symposium between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) was held in Laos. The theme of the meeting was "Challenges and Experiences in Strengthening Party Building Under Conditions of Opening Up to the Outside World." Liu Qibao, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee, and Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Chansy Phosikham, Member of the Political Bureau of the LPRP Central Committee, Member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee, and Head of the Organization Department of the LPRP Central Committee, delivered keynote reports at the opening ceremony. They respectively introduced the practices and experiences of the CPC and the LPRP in strengthening their own development.

Deng Chundong, President and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), attended the meeting and delivered a speech titled "Improving the Party's Capacity and Level of Leadership over Economic and Social Development under Complex Circumstances and Situations."
