MOSCOW, June 8 (Xinhua) (Reporter Wang Chendi) — The fourth installment of the "China, Russia, and Central and Eastern Europe Development Strategy Forum" international seminar series opened in Moscow on the 7th. The theme of this meeting was "Exploring New Models of Socio-Economic Development."
More than 50 representatives attended the meeting, including Deng Chundong, Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies [1] of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Lenchuk, Director of the Institute of Economics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as experts from research institutes and scholars from universities of both countries.
During his opening speech, Deng Chundong stated that China and Russia maintain excellent relations, with both sides providing mutual understanding and support on major international affairs. This serves as the prerequisite for exchange and cooperation between the academic communities of the two nations. Currently, both countries are in an important period of development, and both face distinct challenges in their socio-economic progress. The Chinese side hopes to understand Russia's socio-economic development strategy while simultaneously introducing China's development model to the Russian side. It is hoped that scholars from both countries can learn from one another to promote socio-economic development in both nations.
Lenchuk stated that the exchange between the two sides on socio-economic issues is of great significance. For the Russian side, China's experience is extremely important, as China has already become an innovation-driven country and is continuously expanding its market for high-tech products. China’s economy is undergoing sustainable development. Currently, Russia is searching for a new model of economic development and urgently needs to break its dependence on resource exports. Against this backdrop, China and Russia can carry out cooperation in many fields.
During the meeting, experts and scholars from both countries engaged in discussions on issues such as Eurasian transit transportation, the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road [2], and how to formulate socio-economic development strategies.
