Deng Chundong, Party Secretary and President, Holds Talks with the General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party in Lisbon, Portugal
On the evening of October 8, 2018, Deng Chundong, Party Committee Secretary and Dean of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), held talks in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, with Jerónimo de Sousa, Secretary-General of the Central Committee of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP). The two sides engaged in an in-depth and spirited exchange on topics of mutual concern, including China's policy direction following the 19th CPC National Congress [1], the history and current organizational status of the PCP, China-Europe relations, and the regional situation.
Secretary Deng Chundong expressed admiration for the historical contributions made by the Portuguese Communist Party, as a traditional European communist party, toward European democracy, development, and progress. He also expressed a sincere desire to further strengthen bilateral cooperation and exchange. Jerónimo de Sousa, Secretary-General of the PCP Central Committee, expressed his gratitude and congratulations for the hard work performed by the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies in organizing the 2018 "Chinese Path" Europe Forum (Portugal Session), as well as for the excellent presentations delivered by Chinese scholars at the forum.
Participating in the meeting were Pedro Guerreiro, Member of the Secretariat and Head of the International Department of the PCP Central Committee; Luís Carapinha, Executive Member of the PCP International Department; He Xinyuan, Researcher at the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies; Xu Baoyou, Researcher at the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee; and Yuan Guangde, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Inner Mongolia University of Finance and Economics.
