The Academy of Marxism Held its 2019 Annual Work Conference on January 23

On January 23, the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) convened its 2019 annual work meeting. Jiang Hui, Member of the CASS Party Leadership Group ^[1] and Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies; Jia Chaoning, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee and Vice Director of the Institute; and Jin Minqing, Vice Director of the Institute, attended the meeting. All cadres and staff of the Institute of Marxism Studies participated.

The meeting conveyed the spirit of the CASS 2019 Annual Work Meeting and its Meeting on Comprehensively and Strictly Governing the Party and Strengthening Party Building. Comrade Jiang Hui provided a comprehensive, accurate, and detailed transmission of the report delivered by Xie Fuzhan, President of CASS and Secretary of the Party Leadership Group. Comrade Xie Fuzhan’s report, titled "Shouldering the Lofty Mission of the New Era," provided a comprehensive review of the Academy's primary work in 2018 across eight dimensions: the continuous deepening of the study, research, and interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; the continuous consolidation of the Party’s ideological positions; the significant progress in the establishment of the Chinese Academy of History ^[2]; the new achievements in the construction of the "three systems" ^[3] driven by the Innovation Project ^[4]; new breakthroughs in think tank construction; reaching new levels in the construction of the talent pool; new progress in international academic exchange and cooperation; moving toward a new stage in management, service, and security; and new achievements in comprehensively and strictly governing the Party and in Party building. The report provided a comprehensive deployment of key tasks for 2019. Comrade Xie Fuzhan emphasized the need for greater accomplishments in eight areas: the construction of Marxist positions, accelerating the construction of the "three systems," building a high-end national think tank, building a "national team" for Chinese historical research, implementing talent projects, enhancing the international influence of Chinese philosophy and social sciences, improving management service and security capabilities, and Party building. Comrade Jiang Hui simultaneously conveyed the spirit of the speech delivered by Comrade Wang Jingqing at the closing ceremony of the CASS 2019 Annual Work Meeting.

Comrade Jin Minqing conveyed the spirit of the report by Wang Jingqing, Vice President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group, titled "Persisting in Taking the Party’s Political Construction as the Lead to Deepen the Advancement of Comprehensively and Strictly Governing the Party." Comrade Wang Jingqing’s report systematically reviewed CASS’s work in comprehensively and strictly governing the Party and strengthening Party building, and proposed the working ideas and main tasks for these areas in 2019. Comrade Jia Chaoning conveyed the report by Yang Xiaoshan, Leader of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group stationed in the Academy and Member of the Party Leadership Group, titled "Earnestly Studying and Implementing the Spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the 19th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection to Solidly Advance Discipline Inspection and Supervision Work at CASS." Comrade Yang Xiaoshan’s report profoundly analyzed the new situation of comprehensively and strictly governing the Party since the 19th National Congress of the CPC ^[5] and put forward specific requirements for accurately grasping the Party Central Committee’s new strategies for comprehensively and strictly governing the Party. Comrade Jia Chaoning also conveyed relevant regulations regarding discipline inspection and supervision work prior to the [Spring Festival] holiday.

Comrade Jiang Hui put forward specific requirements for conveying and implementing the spirit of the CASS annual work meeting: First, to implement the spirit of the CASS annual work meeting and the deployments of the Party Leadership Group, and to complete the adjustment, revision, and deployment of the 2019 work highlights for the Institute of Marxism Studies. Second, to clarify the roadmaps, timelines, and responsible persons to ensure effective implementation. Comrade Jiang Hui emphasized the need to focus on six areas of work: First, achieving new accomplishments in building a strong Marxist position and in ideological work. Second, creating an "upgraded version" of the Innovation Project, establishing boutique projects, cultivating top-tier talents, and taking new measures to produce high-level results. Third, gaining a clear understanding of the baseline and achieving new results in the adjustment and layout of academic disciplines. Fourth, achieving new breakthroughs in strengthening research on major projects and foundational or innovative topics. Fifth, establishing rules and regulations to make new progress in improving institutional construction. Sixth, effectively managing the construction of the leadership team and the cadre ranks to form an Institute of Marxism Studies that is united, progressive, and characterized by a clean and healthy political ecosystem.

Focusing on scientific research work, Comrade Jin Minqing proposed specific requirements for implementing Comrade Jiang Hui’s deployment of the Institute of Marxism Studies' 2019 tasks.
