The Academy of Marxism Holds a Mobilization and Deployment Meeting for the "Staying True to Our Original Aspiration and Keeping Our Mission Firmly in Mind" Theme Education Campaign
On the morning of June 20, the Institute of Marxism Studies (IMS) held a mobilization and deployment meeting for the "Remaining True to our Original Aspiration and Founding Mission" thematic education campaign [1]. Wu Shangmin, head of the Fourth Guidance Group for thematic education of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Fan Jianxin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the IMS, delivered the mobilization speech.
Fan Jianxin put forward three requirements for carrying out the thematic education: First, to raise political stance and fully recognize the great significance of conducting the "thematic education." Carrying out this education is timely; it is an urgent need to arm the whole Party with Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, an urgent need to advance Party building in the New Era, an urgent need to maintain the flesh-and-blood ties between the Party and the masses [2], and an urgent need to realize the goals and tasks determined by the 19th CPC National Congress. Second, to accurately grasp the general requirements, goals, and tasks of the thematic education. Specifically, it is necessary to benchmark against the general requirements of the Party Central Committee for thematic education, the major mission entrusted by the Party Central Committee to philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics in the New Era, and the requirements of the CASS Party Group for the IMS, focusing on identifying gaps in the IMS’s efforts to remain true to the original aspiration, shoulder the mission, and ensure implementation. This must be closely integrated with professional work, identifying not only deficiencies in ideological understanding, but also shortcomings in scientific research, disciplinary layout, and the construction of the "Three Great Systems" [3], as well as deficiencies in research management, institutional regulations, and journal publication. Third, to effectively manage the key work arrangements for the IMS's thematic education. This thematic education does not divide stages or segments, yet its requirements are high; the processes of study and education, investigation and research, examination of problems, and rectification and implementation must be integrated throughout the entire process.
Wu Shangmin fully affirmed the various tasks carried out by the IMS for the thematic education, introduced the responsibilities of the Guidance Group, and provided guiding opinions for the IMS’s implementation. First, highlight priorities and ensure the implementation of fundamental tasks. Deeply studying and thoroughly understanding Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era must be treated as the top priority, strengthening the "Four Consciousnesses," [4] firming up the "Four Matters of Confidence," [5] and achieving the "Two Upholds." Second, accurately grasp and implement the general requirements. The thematic education should be combined with the ongoing work deployed by the Party Central Committee and the CASS Party Group, closely revolving around the implementation of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions on philosophy and social science work and the spirit of his congratulatory letter to our Academy [6]. We must find gaps and focus on implementation to provide momentum for construction of the "Three Great Systems" and other key tasks, as well as the completion of the central missions of this unit. Third, closely follow the "Five Sentences" [7] to ensure that goals and requirements are met, focusing on resolving prominent problems in the politics, ideology, and work style of the leadership team and Party cadres, and focusing on resolving prominent problems within the unit as well as hot-spot and difficult issues strongly reflected by the masses.
Jia Chaoning, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission and Vice President of the IMS, provided supplementary explanations on matters related to the thematic education, emphasizing that great importance must be attached to it, fundamental tasks must be fully implemented, and all prescribed actions of the thematic education must be handled effectively.
Also attending the meeting were Lyu Songsong, deputy head of the Fourth Guidance Group, members Liu Li and Shi Lei, and Vice Presidents Xin Xiangyang and Jia Chaoning. Heads of various research departments and offices of the IMS, Party branch secretaries, and all staff members participated in the meeting.
