On January 19, Jiang Hui, Member of the Core Leadership Group [1] of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Director of the Institute of Contemporary China, and Dean of the Institute of Marxism Studies, met with the visiting Cuban Ambassador to China, Carlos Miguel Pereira Hernández, and his delegation.
Jiang Hui introduced the status of academic exchanges between CASS and Cuba. He expressed the hope to further strengthen exchange and cooperation with Cuba by building more communication platforms, jointly identifying topics of practical significance, carrying out collaborative research, and producing high-quality research results to promote the deepening and substantiation of Sino-Cuban academic exchange. He pointed out that in the new stage of development, the Fifth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee coordinated the "two overall situations" [2], clarified the choice of path for our country's socialist modernization, and made strategic deployments for constructing the new development pattern [3]. Against this broader background, scholars from China and Cuba can conduct in-depth exchanges on issues such as Party building, the experience and laws governing the long-term governance of Communist Parties, and the paths for developing countries to achieve modernization.
Ambassador Pereira introduced relevant information regarding the upcoming 8th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, scheduled for April 2021. He affirmed the significant importance of strengthening exchange and cooperation between Cuba and China in the field of social sciences and stated that the Cuban Embassy in China is willing to play an active role in this regard.
The two sides also conducted in-depth discussions on specific topics for exchange and cooperation.
