Commemorating the International Women’s Day Theme Event of the Academy of Marxism

News & Updates

General Secretary Xi Jinping once again clearly pointed out in the report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China: "To uphold and develop Marxism, we must integrate it with China's specific realities and with China's fine traditional culture." [1] In order to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's instructions on the "Two Integrations" [2], and with the approval of the Party Committee of the Institute of Marxism Studies, the labor union and the Women’s Work Committee of our Institute organized all staff to visit the Central Main Hall of the National Archives of Publications and Culture on March 29, 2023. The theme of this International Women’s Day activity was "Witnessing the Chinese Cultural Lineage, Contributing Women's Strength." More than 70 employees from the Institute participated, and Yu Junxiao, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission and Vice President of the Institute of Marxism Studies, attended the event.

The National Archives of Publications and Culture is a landmark cultural project of the New Era intended to be passed down through generations. It serves as the general repository for national publication resources and a gene bank for the seeds of Chinese culture. It has been included in the "14th Five-Year Plan and the Selection of Long-range Objectives Through the Year 2035" [3] as an important component of the flourishing development of socialist culture. During the activity, the staff visited three themed exhibitions:

(1) In the exhibition "The Elegance Resides Here: Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Civilization Publications" [4], which focuses on the development of Chinese history and the evolution of Chinese civilization, participants saw many precious exhibits and innovative display designs. These various types of publication exhibits serve as cultural carriers, reflecting the changes in Chinese history and witnessing the achievements of Chinese civilization. They present the historical origins, developmental trajectory, and fundamental trends of China's fine traditional culture.

(2) In the "Light of Truth: Exhibition of Classic Publications of the Sinicization and Modernization of Marxism," participants viewed precious physical and digital versions of manuscripts and works by key leaders of the international communist movement since the birth of Marxism in the 1840s—including Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin, and Mao Zedong—as well as historical documents, books, periodicals, archival materials, and videos related to the international communist movement.

(3) In the "Witnessing the Great Cause: Exhibition of Publications on the Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation," participants saw precious documents from the CPC's century-long struggle, as well as works and rare book editions by Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, and Xi Jinping that applied Marxist theoretical perspectives and methods to guide various periods of the Chinese revolution. This provided a more intuitive understanding of the glorious journey of the Chinese nation as it "stood up, grew prosperous, and became strong." [5]

Wandering among the vast collection of historical publications, the staff of our Institute felt a deep sense of pride in China's fine traditional culture and a high degree of identification with Marxist theory.

During the visit, the staff learned that the exhibits for the "Light of Truth" exhibition had been collected, organized, and prepared by scholars from our own Institute. When Vice President Yu, standing before the display of the Communist Manifesto manuscript, presented the National Archives with a commemorative crystal plaque engraved with the words of Marx's wife, Jenny von Westphalen, on behalf of the group, it further enhanced everyone’s confidence and pride in dedicating themselves to Marxist theoretical research.

After the visit, the staff enthusiastically submitted more than 50 photographs taken during the tour, accompanied by titles reflecting their insights. The labor union and the Women’s Work Committee selected 26 of these to create display boards, recording the many wonderful and unforgettable moments of the activity.

To thank everyone for their strong support and active participation, the labor union and the Women’s Work Committee also prepared exquisite and practical souvenirs for all participating employees, which were well-received.

Through this activity, the female employees of our Institute noted that they will further strengthen their historical consciousness, firm up their cultural confidence, and consciously shoulder the important responsibility and mission of promoting the prosperity and development of philosophy and social sciences in China. They pledged to contribute "women's strength" to the prosperity and progress of our motherland.
