On July 10, the Party Branch of the Department of International Communist Movement Studies of the Academy of Marxism Conducted a Thematic Education Research Activity at Honghe University in Yunnan
On the morning of July 10, members of the Party Branch of the Department of International Communist Movement Studies of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) conducted a research visit to Honghe University in Yunnan Province. The research activities centered on two main themes: first, the distinctive experiences of Honghe University regarding the thematic education [1] activities for the in-depth study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; and second, the current status of the university's research on Vietnam and Laos.
Hong Bo, Secretary of the University Party Committee of Honghe University, received the research team. The symposium was chaired by Ma Hongbo, Dean of the School of Marxism. Participants included heads of relevant departments, including Zhu Xin, Member of the University Party Committee and Director of the Organization Department; Yang Shenxuan, Member of the University Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department [2]; Ye Shaofei, Vice Dean of the Institute of Area Studies; Shi Jianguang, Director of the Library; Shao Jianping, Professor at the School of Marxism; and Liu Lian, Deputy Director of the Office.
Honghe University is a full-time public undergraduate institution under the joint construction and management of Yunnan Province and Honghe Prefecture, with the province taking primary responsibility. The university uses the new concept of a "National Gateway University" [3] to create a new highland for the opening up of higher education in border regions. Since its establishment, Honghe University has achieved prolific results in conducting research on neighboring countries as well as in pedagogical and research cooperation.
At the symposium, Branch Secretary Pan Jin’e introduced the primary objectives of the research team's visit and provided a brief overview of the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS. Zhu Xin, Member of the University Party Committee and Director of the Organization Department, introduced the implementation of thematic education activities at Honghe University. These activities have been launched comprehensively, focusing on theoretical study, investigation and research, cautionary rectification [4], and the promotion of development. In terms of investigation and research, the focus is on twelve specific areas, while promoting rectification and remediation to address problems in nine major aspects. In accordance with the relevant requirements of Yunnan Province, the university continues to further promote in-depth study, supervise implementation, and carry out effective publicity and reporting to deepen the thematic education activities.
Yang Shenxuan, Member of the University Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department, introduced the distinctive highlights of the university's work regarding the thematic education for the in-depth study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. For instance, the university adopted methods such as reading groups, specialized tutoring, and the combination of "red" immersive education [5] with negative cautionary education to carry out learning activities. Within the thematic education activities, emphasis is also placed on the theoretical publicity and interpretation of doctrine, as well as international exchange and international communication. The thematic education activities have been carried out in a comprehensive and solid manner with significant results.
Ye Shaofei, Vice Dean of the Institute of Area Studies at Honghe University, introduced the status of the university's research on Vietnam. Leveraging its geographical advantage of proximity to Vietnam, Honghe University serves the construction of Yunnan Province's role as a "radiation center" [6] facing South and Southeast Asia, cultivating comprehensive talents in regional and country studies. The university began its research on Vietnam in 2004 and currently hosts the "Center for Vietnam Studies" under the Ministry of Education and the "Center for Sri Lanka Studies" under the National Ethnic Affairs Commission. It has been approved for the Yunnan provincial innovative discipline of "Regional and Country Studies." The "Honghe River Basin Social Development Forum" and the "Honghe River Basin University Presidents' Forum" organized by the school enjoy significant reputation and influence.
Shao Jianping, Professor at the School of Marxism, introduced the current status of the school's research on Vietnam and Laos, and Shi Jianguang, Deputy Director of the Library, introduced the current status and advantages of research regarding the China-Vietnam border.
Researcher Pan Jin’e expressed gratitude to Honghe University for its support of this research activity, noting that the symposium yielded rich results. She stated that the team learned from Honghe University’s distinctive work and experiential activities in the thematic education of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Researcher Pan Jin’e believe that Honghe University possesses unique characteristics and advantages in conducting research and cooperation regarding Vietnam and Laos by utilizing its locational advantages, and expressed hope that both parties can further develop in-depth exchange and cooperation in the future.
