News & Updates

On the morning of October 9, 2023, Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies (IMS), met with a delegation led by the Cuban Ambassador to China, Alberto Blanco Silva [1], at the IMS. Lin Jianhua, Vice Director of the IMS, presided over the meeting. Lin Jianhua welcomed Ambassador Blanco and his delegation, providing the Ambassador with a detailed introduction to the functional positioning of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), as well as the history of the founding of the IMS, its institutional structure, platform development, and the building of its personnel teams. He also detailed the integrated development of research and education between the IMS and the School of Marxism at the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (UCASS) [2], along with disciplinary development and talent cultivation.

Ambassador Blanco expressed his pleasure and honor in visiting the IMS. The Ambassador began by briefly reviewing the developmental histories of China and Cuba, emphasizing his belief that the socialist system is indestructible. He spoke highly of the Communist Party of China’s ability to achieve the Sinicization and localization of Marxist theory and its capacity to promote the Party’s own self-construction. He affirmed China's significant theoretical and practical contributions to promoting global development. The Ambassador compared the similar experiences and policy positions of the leaders of China and Cuba, sharing his own personal experiences in engaging with President Xi Jinping. The Ambassador proposed that he hopes to engage in in-depth exchanges with scholars from the IMS in the future regarding development experiences for small and medium-sized enterprises and the internationalization of the Renminbi, and expressed a desire for more direct and profound exchange and cooperation with our Institute’s Research Center for Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

Xin Xiangyang welcomed Ambassador Blanco and his delegation to the IMS, noting a sense of fraternal closeness with the Cuban comrades. Xin Xiangyang pointed out that the socialist construction of both China and Cuba has been underway for a long time; while both have their own characteristics, they also share common features. China's socialist construction, particularly since the reform and opening up and the entrance into the New Era of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, has accumulated several important pieces of experience: namely, always emphasizing the upholding of the Party's comprehensive leadership, always emphasizing theoretical innovation, always adhering to the people-centered development philosophy, always persisting in pioneering and innovation, and always persisting in maintaining a global perspective [3] while emphasizing the building of a community with a shared future for humanity. Xin Xiangyang stressed that the IMS must further strengthen its ties and exchanges with Communist Parties of various countries and with progressive individuals who adhere to Marxism, so as to jointly promote the sustained development of the socialist cause.
