The Party Branch of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism and the Retired Party Branch Jointly Held a Theme Party Day Activity
To implement the requirements for Party discipline study and education, and to guide retired personnel and active researchers in studying, understanding, clarifying, and abiding by discipline, the Party Branch of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism Studies and the Retired Party Branch of the Institute of Marxism Studies (IMS) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) jointly held a thematic Party Day [1] activity in Conference Room 1237 on the morning of May 22. The theme of this activity was the study of the Party's political and organizational discipline. The event was presided over by Comrade He Xinyuan, Deputy Director (Presiding) of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism Studies.
At the beginning of the meeting, Comrade He Xinyuan read a written address on behalf of Comrade Lin Jianhua, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee and Vice President of the IMS, who was attending a Party discipline study and education workshop for CASS bureau-level leadership cadres. In his address, Lin Jianhua fully affirmed the importance and practical significance of this joint thematic Party Day activity and put forward clear requirements for Party members to implement the "Three Consensus" and keep in mind their "Triple Identity." He pointed out: "Whether active or retired, we must keep in mind our 'Triple Identity': namely, as members of the Communist Party of China, as national public servants, and as researchers at the CASS. Comrades must remember that the CASS is not a 'territory beyond the law,' [2] nor is any one of us a 'person beyond the reach of civilization.' [3] We must contribute bricks and mortar to the development of the CASS and the IMS, and we must never cause trouble or bring discredit upon them."
In the study session, Comrade He Xinyuan led the reading and study of the Regulations on Communist Party of China Disciplinary Actions, focusing on explaining the contents of Chapters Six and Seven. He analyzed the newly added clauses, adjusted content, and internal structural changes, while reiterating the forms of disposal for violating regulations. Comrade Wang Shijin, a member of the Retired Party Branch committee, conveyed the spirit of a speech by Comrade Hang Yuanxiang, a member of the CASS Party Leadership Group and head of the Discipline Inspection and Supervision Group dispatched to the Academy. The speech emphasized: first, deeply studying and grasping the spirit of the Third Plenary Session of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), and aligning thoughts and actions with the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speeches and the decisions and deployments of the Party Central Committee; second, profoundly grasping the characteristics of the construction of Party conduct, clean government, and anti-corruption work within the CASS, so as to foster a "mountains-clear and waters-bright" [4] political ecosystem and academic environment; third, earnestly studying and implementing the newly revised Regulations on Communist Party of China Disciplinary Actions to strictly enforce the Party's discipline and rules; fourth, adhering to Party building as the guide for the high-quality development of work related to retired cadres in the New Era, making new contributions to the successful operation of the CASS in accordance with the requirements of General Secretary Xi Jinping and the Party Central Committee.
During the exchange session, researchers from three generations—old, middle-aged, and young—across the two branches spoke individually, sharing their understanding and experiences of the Party's political and organizational discipline. Comrade Zhao Zhikue, a member of the Retired Party Branch and former Director of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism Studies, spoke on the theme "Scholars Must Always Adhere to and Maintain the Lifeline of the Party’s Political Discipline." From international and domestic, historical and practical perspectives, he systematically reviewed the history of the CPC’s adherence to and maintenance of the lifeline of political discipline. He proposed that for scholars to maintain this lifeline, they must persist in the Four Cardinal Principles [5], the basic principles of Marxist seeking truth from facts, and the practice of investigation and research. Comrade Zhu Jidong of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism Studies Party Branch discussed four points of experience from Party discipline study and education: first, profoundly recognizing its importance; second, integrating it with the study and implementation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; third, integrating it with the performance of one’s professional duties; and fourth, striving to be a Communist Party member who is loyal to the Party, clean, responsible, and proactive. Comrade Yang Binbin of the same branch spoke on the "Inevitable Logic of Carrying Out Party Discipline Study and Education on the New Journey." He pointed out that this education is an item of historical experience from the CPC’s long-term struggle, an internal necessity for perfecting the system of comprehensively and strictly governing the Party, and an inevitable requirement for strengthening the construction of the Party’s long-term governing capacity.
In the open floor session, Comrades Li Wei, Zhang Zuying, and Li Xiaoyong from the Retired Party Branch, and Comrade Qin Yicheng from the Department of Sinicization of Marxism Studies Party Branch spoke in succession. They shared their learning experiences regarding how to summarize experience from historical practice, how to promote the deep, solid, and effective progress of Party discipline study and education, the importance of strengthening the Party’s unity and unification on the New Era's New Journey, and the perspective of strengthening research into the history of the development of Party discipline.
In the concluding session, Comrade Luan Wenlian, Secretary of the Retired Party Branch, summarized the meeting. She reiterated the extreme importance of both active and retired personnel implementing the Party's discipline and affirmed the results achieved and the fruits of the discussion. She noted that the discussion was enthusiastic and that participants spoke proactively. The exchange maintained the Party’s fine tradition and style of seeking truth from facts, produced excellent learning effects, and achieved the goal of unity and unification.
