News & Updates

On June 14, the 11th "Theory and Practice of Governing Party Building" Forum, jointly organized by the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Jiangxi Normal University, and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, was held in Nanchang, Jiangxi. Attendees of the opening ceremony included Luo Wendong, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Marxism Studies of CASS; Zhu Xiaoli, Secretary of the Party Committee of Jiangxi Normal University; Wang Tingda, former head of the Discipline Inspection Group of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) [1] stationed at the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Xu Jing, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the Jiangxi Provincial Federation of Social Sciences. The opening ceremony was presided over by Zhou Lisheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of Jiangxi Normal University.

Expert scholars and representatives of faculty and students from universities, Party schools, and research institutes across China, along with representatives from journals, newspapers, and web media—including Marxist Studies (Makesizhuyi Yanjiu), Literature of the Communist Party of China (Dang de Wenxian), Marxism and Reality (Makesizhuyi yu Xianshi), Socialist Studies (Shehuizhuyi Yanjiu), World Socialism Studies (Shijie Shehuizhuyi Yanjiu), 探索 (Exploration), Theoretical Exploration (Lilun Tansuo), and the Journal of Jiangxi Normal University (Philosophy and Social Sciences Edition)—gathered to exchange views on the theme of "Research on the Spirit of the Central Eight-Point Regulations and the Building of the Party's Work Style."

In his address, Luo Wendong reviewed the progress of the "Theory and Practice of Governing Party Building" Forum over the eleven years since its inception, emphasizing its role as an effective bridge for academic exchange and the advancement of theoretical innovation in Party building for the New Era. He stated that as the entire Party is engaged in deep study and implementation of the spirit of the Central Eight-Point Regulations, this forum's specific focus on "Research on the Spirit of the Central Eight-Point Regulations and the Building of the Party's Work Style" helps the academic community deeply study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on strengthening the Party’s work style. It is of great significance for studying and implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important thoughts on Party building.

Zhu Xiaoli extended a warm welcome to the leaders and scholars attending the forum. He pointed out the need to strengthen the systematized research on General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on the Party’s work style, the "theory-based" [2] research on the achievements and experiences of implementing the Eight-Point Regulations since the 18th National Congress [3], and the systematic research on the historical experience of the century-old Party's work style. He emphasized the need to fully recognize the importance of carrying out education on the implementation of the spirit of the Central Eight-Point Regulations, to persist over the long term in implementing these regulations, and to ensure that all educational tasks achieve practical results.

In his speech and keynote report, Wang Tingda noted that the building of the Party's work style is "always on the road" [4] and must be strengthened with unremitting perseverance. He pointed out that the Party's work style is the Party's image; therefore, style construction must be strengthened to maintain a favorable image in the hearts of the masses. The Party's work style relates to "the winning or losing of the people's hearts" [5]; it must be continuously strengthened to ensure the Party wins the people’s hearts and always receives their support. Ultimately, the building of the Party’s work style concerns the very survival of the Party and the success or failure of the Party's cause.

Xu Jing noted that Jiangxi is a "sacred land of red soil" [6] filled with revolutionary memories, having contributed experiences such as the "fine work style of Soviet Area cadres" [7] to the history of the CPC’s work style construction. He stated that holding this forum in Jiangxi is of great significance for profoundly grasping General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions and for strengthening the Party’s work style in the New Era.

Fourteen experts delivered keynote speeches. In the first session, Deng Chundong (former Secretary and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies, CASS), Liu Jianhui (former Deputy Dean of Education at the Central Party School), Liu Jingbei (former Vice President of the China Executive Leadership Academy Pudong), Liu Honglin (Distinguished Professor at Fudan University), and Ding Junping (Professor at Wuhan University) spoke on topics including the strategic significance of style construction, the transition from the Eight-Point Regulations to the "Spirit" of the Regulations, and the executive power of intra-Party regulations.

In the second session, Song Jin (East China Normal University), Zang Xiuling (Shandong University), Wang Gang (Nanjing Normal University), Tang Huangfeng (Renmin University of China), and Wu Huaiyou (Jiangxi Normal University) discussed the logical cognition of the Eight-Point Regulations, Chen Yun’s [8] thoughts on work style, and the methods for China to gain "international discourse power" [9] in the New Era.

In the third session, Yue Kui (Huazhong University of Science and Technology), Wang Shiyi (Jiangsu Provincial Party School), Liu Haifei (CASS), and Cao Kaihua (Jiangxi Normal University) explored the explorations of the 8th National Congress on work style, the institutional framework of self-revolution, and the logic of the CPC's revolutionary spirit.

The forum featured four sub-forums and one youth forum, focusing on the Eight-Point Regulations, the coordinated investigation of "style issues and corruption" (风腐同查同治), the system for comprehensively and strictly governing the Party, and Xi Jinping's important thoughts on the Party's self-revolution.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Wang Yuxin and Xiao Huaping of Jiangxi Normal University. Representatives from the sub-forums reported their findings, followed by concluding remarks from Liu Zhichang (CASS) and You Lin (Jiangxi Normal University).
