Strengthen Ideological and Political Guidance and Excel in Work Related to Retired Officials
On the morning of June 6, 2025, the Institute of Marxism Studies (CASS) held a symposium for retired cadres to convey the spirit of the 2025 Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Work Conference on Retired Cadres. Nineteen retired Party member cadres attended the meeting. Comrade Luo Wendong, Secretary of the Institute’s Party Committee, presided over the session.
The meeting relayed the spirit of the "CASS Scheme for Strengthening the Ideological and Political Guidance of Retired Personnel," the speech by Vice President Zhen Zhanmin, the concluding summary speech by Director-General Li Jinfeng, and the "CASS Implementation Scheme for Organizing Retired Cadre Party Members to Participate in In-depth Education on Implementing the Spirit of the Central Eight-Point Regulations."
On behalf of the Party Committee of the Institute of Marxism Studies, Luo Wendong put forward three requirements for work concerning veteran cadres: First, to improve the systems and mechanisms for retired cadre work to ensure that veteran comrades "retire without losing their color" [1]. Quarterly return-to-institute activities must be meticulously organized, and veteran comrades should participate actively according to their physical condition. Second, to integrate work for retired cadres into the broader context of the Institute’s reform, stability, and development. This involves improving service management, ensuring the CASS Party Group’s care for veteran comrades is fully realized, and earnestly carrying out the "paired assistance" [2] support work for retired cadres within CASS. Third, the Party branches of retired cadres must continue to execute their branch work effectively, improve Party building, strengthen ideological and political work, complete rectification tasks following inspections [3], and give full play to their organizational functions.
The retired cadre Party branches of the Institute of Marxism Studies stated that they would resolutely implement the spirit of the CASS Work Conference on Retired Cadres. They pledged to strengthen ideological and political education, reinforce political guidance, further improve work concerning retired cadres, ensure the implementation of the "Three Meetings and one Lesson" system [4], enthusiastically provide service guarantees, and give full play to the Party branch's role as a "formidable combat fortress" [5].
Comrades in attendance stated that the CASS Party Group has deeply implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on veteran cadre work, reflecting a profound concern for elderly cadres in practical operations and setting clear requirements for ideological and political guidance. As retired Party member cadres, they must strictly observe Party discipline, comply with relevant regulations, and "maintain their integrity in their later years" [6] while enjoying their retirement. Having benefited from the care of the Party, the state, and CASS in various capacities, they expressed a commitment to "repaying this kindness" [7].
The attendees expressed gratitude for the care and love shown by Party organizations at all levels. They noted that under the leadership of the CASS Party Group, all aspects of the Academy’s work are flourishing [8], and work concerning veteran cadres has taken on a new look; the Institute’s Party Committee is very concerned with veteran cadres, and everyone’s enthusiasm is high. Each veteran comrade spoke to share their reflections and offered opinions and suggestions regarding retirement work.
Three comrades who have been Party members for 50 years were awarded the "Glorious 50 Years in the Party" commemorative medal [9]. Party Committee Secretary Luo Wendong presented the medals and took group photographs with them, while all attending veteran comrades offered warm applause in congratulation.
