The Academy of Marxism Holds the First 2026 Presentation and Evaluation Meeting for the Social Science Youth Homecoming Survey Results

News & Updates

On March 11, the Institute of Marxism Studies [1] held the first presentation and evaluation session of 2026 for the "Social Science Youth Returning Home" [2] research findings. Luo Wendong, Secretary of the Party Committee, presided over the meeting and provided a summary. Cui Weihang, Dean and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Relevant experts from the Institute of Information Intelligence, heads of research departments, research offices, and editorial departments of the Institute of Marxism Studies, along with youth mentors, attended the meeting to participate in the evaluation. Youth scholars from the Institute of Marxism Studies who took part in this research attended the meeting and reported their findings.

Luo Wendong offered three points of advice on how to complete a high-quality research report. First, one must possess the excellent academic style, writing style, and work style [3] of a Marxist scholar, avoiding impetuousness and empty talk. Second, one must master scientific research methods and improve the ability and level of investigation; only with a high vantage point and deep reflection can the research be accurate. One must understand new circumstances, form new perspectives, and propose new countermeasures. Rather than sticking to conventions or repeating old clichés, one should uphold the fundamentals and break new ground while remaining pragmatic and effective. Third, one should emphasize the writing techniques of the report. The selection of the topic must have highlights and be attractive, avoiding ambiguity. Qualitative and quantitative analyses should be combined and must be rational and reasonable. Problems must be focused, combining specific points with the broader picture [4]. Words must be grounded in evidence and facts must be verified; typos, omissions, and ungrammatical sentences must be avoided.

In his speech, Cui Weihang proposed that a good research report has two basic elements. First, it must contain theoretical reflection and refinement. Scholars of Marxist theory should highlight the characteristics of their discipline and be adept at theoretical extraction. In their research, they should start from specific circumstances and gradually penetrate deep into the major theoretical and practical issues of concern to the Party and the state. Second, there must be a sense of problem-awareness. Youth scholars should not only be specialized but also broad-minded; they must go deep into the "land of the motherland" and grassroots practice. Only by raising questions based on practice can academic research be elevated. He emphasized that research must be conducted solidly, excavated deeply, and positioned at a high level to yield significant harvests.

During the findings report session, youth scholars from the Institute of Marxism Studies—Ma Zhengli, Bi Guoshuai, Liu Ying, Zhang Ge, Feng Mengqi, Qiao Ruihua, Zhao Dingqi, Sun Jinya, Li Xiaobai, and Zhang Ting—respectively reported on their topic considerations, research processes, report frameworks, as well as their reflections, experiences, and puzzles encountered during the research process.

During the expert evaluation session, Jing Xianghui, a researcher at the Institute of Information Intelligence; Yang Jing, Director of the Department of Marxist Principles; He Xinyuan, Director of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism; Yuan Xiuli, Youth Mentor and Director of the Department of International Communist Movement Studies; Liu Xukuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; Ren Jie, Youth Mentor and Director of the Editorial Department of Marxism Studies (Makesizhuyi yanjiu); Liu Ailing, Youth Mentor and Director of the Ideological and Political Education Research Office; Zhou Miao, Director of the Foreign Left-Wing Thought Research Office; and Shan Chao, Deputy Director of the Editorial Department of World Socialism Studies (Shijie shehuizhuyiyanjiu), discussed their respective suggestions on how to conduct research and write reports well. They provided specific revision suggestions for the 11 research reports submitted this time.

The youth scholars remarked that they benefited greatly from this meeting, gaining a deeper understanding of why to write a good research report, what constitutes a good report, and how to write one. This session helped enhance their capacity and quality for conducting investigation and research, as well as the quality and standard of their research report writing.
