[Academic Announcement] 21st Century Marxism Lecture Series (Lecture 3) | Marxism Research Network

The "21st Century Marxism Grand Lecture Series," hosted by the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), will hold its third session on May 13. Researcher Li Jie, former President of Qiushi ^[1] and President of the Association of Chinese Historians, will be invited to give a keynote lecture titled "Viewing a Century of Party History Through Five Threads." The lecture will be chaired by Researcher Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Institute of Marxism Studies.

Profile of Comrade Li Jie: Li Jie is the President of the Association of Chinese Historians, a member of the Advisory Committee of the Central Marxist Theory Research and Construction Project ^[2], and a member of the National Textbook Committee. He formerly served as Deputy Director of the Central Literature Research Office ^[3], Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and President of the Qiushi Journal. His research fields primarily focus on the history of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the history of the People's Republic of China, studies on the life and thought of Mao Zedong, the theoretical system of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics ^[4], and studies on the Sinicization of Marxism. His works include Mao Zedong's Historical Contributions to New China, Mao Zedong and the Internal and External Affairs of New China, and How the New Leap in the Sinicization of Marxism Was Achieved. He has presided over the editing of several collections of CPC documents, such as Selected Important Documents Since the Founding of the Party, and is one of the primary authors of the Biography of Mao Zedong.

↩ [1] 《求是》(Qiúshì): Literally meaning "Seeking Truth," this is the flagship theoretical journal of the CPC Central Committee. Its name is derived from the CCP's core epistemological slogan "seek truth from facts" (实事求是).

↩ [2] 中央马克思主义理论研究和建设工程 (Zhōngyāng Mǎkèsī zhǔyì lǐlùn yánjiū hé jiànshè gōngchéng): Launched in 2004, this is a major state-level project aimed at maintaining the dominant status of Marxism in the ideological sphere, updating Marxist textbooks, and consolidating "Marxism with Chinese characteristics" as the guiding ideology.

↩ [3] 中央文献研究室 (Zhōngyāng wénxiàn yánjiū shì): A former functional department of the CPC Central Committee responsible for compiling and researching the works of Party leaders and historical documents. It has since been merged into the Institute of Party History and Literature.

↩ [4] 中国特色社会主义理论体系 (Zhōngguó tèsè shèhuì zhǔyì lǐlùn tǐxì): This term refers to the collection of theoretical innovations by the CPC since 1978, including Deng Xiaoping Theory, the "Three Represents," the Scientific Outlook on Development, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It is distinct from the foundational "Mao Zedong Thought."
