The 10th International Forum on Socialism Convenes
On November 4, the 10th International Forum on Socialism was convened in Guilin, China. The theme of this year's forum was "Socialist Modernization: Theory and Practice." Participating experts engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions centered on the rich connotations and world significance of Chinese-path modernization, the relationship and trends between socialist modernization and the world socialist movement, and the national characteristics and common features of socialist modernization.
Tạ Minh Tuấn, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS); Kenehlaxy Chivonphan, Vice President of the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences (LASES); Jin Hualun, Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Committee; and He Zubin, Party Committee Secretary of Guangxi Normal University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Xin Xiangyang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), presided over the opening ceremony.
Nearly 40 Chinese and foreign experts delivered plenary speeches, including Xin Xiangyang; Wang Tingda, Dean of the School of Marxism at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Director of the Institute of Chinese Studies at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; Saysavanh Thenthongsa, Director of the Institute of Socio-Economic Policy Research at the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences; and Lin Jianhua, Vice Director of the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS. During the discussion sessions, scholars from the three countries deliberated on issues such as the comparative study of socialist modernization across different nations, the current international situation, and the construction of a community with a shared future for humanity.
Participating scholars maintained that strengthening the research on and synthesis of the theory and practice of socialist modernization helps us grasp historical laws, solidify historical confidence [1], enhance historical consciousness, and seize historical initiative. This enables the writing of new historical chapters for scientific socialism in the 21st century on the new journey of comprehensively advancing socialist modernization.
More than 100 experts and scholars from China, Vietnam, and Laos conducted seminars around three main topics: "Marxism and Modernization Theory," "Chinese-path Modernization and the World Socialist Movement," and "The General Laws of Modernization and the Universal Laws of Socialist Modernization."
Following the meeting, the heads of the three delegations consulted and reached an internal consensus regarding the theme, timing, and location of the 11th International Forum on Socialism, to be held in Laos in 2024.
The forum was jointly organized by the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Lao Academy of Social and Economic Sciences, and Guangxi Normal University. It was co-hosted by the Department of International Communist Movement Studies at the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the School of Marxism at Guangxi Normal University, and the Research Center for Marxist Theory and Regional Practice (a key research base for humanities and social sciences in Guangxi universities).
