Call for Papers: The 5th Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Mao Zedong Thought Forum

In order to thoroughly study, research, and implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Reform and Opening-up [1], and to further advance theoretical innovation based on practice, the 5th "Mao Zedong Thought Forum of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences" is scheduled to be held in Beijing on Saturday, April 14, 2018. The theme is "Mao Zedong Thought and Reform and Opening-up." The forum will last three days: registration for out-of-town guests on April 13, a full day of sessions on April 14, and departure for out-of-town guests on April 15.

The "Mao Zedong Thought Forum of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences" is a high-level national academic forum under the unified leadership of the Leading Group for Marxist Theoretical Discipline Construction and Theoretical Research Projects of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and is organized by the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies. It serves as an authoritative forum in the fields of Mao Zedong Thought research and the study of Mao Zedong's life, aiming to strengthen exchanges among scholars in the field of Mao Zedong Thought research nationwide and to promote the in-depth development of such research. Founded in 2014, the forum is held annually; this year marks its fifth session.

We welcome the submission of papers centered on the theme and the following topics:

  1. Mao Zedong's thoughts on political construction and Reform and Opening-up
  2. Mao Zedong's thoughts on economic construction and Reform and Opening-up
  3. Mao Zedong's thoughts on cultural construction and Reform and Opening-up
  4. Mao Zedong's thoughts on social construction and Reform and Opening-up
  5. Mao Zedong's thoughts on Party building and comprehensively and strictly governing the Party
  6. Mao Zedong's thoughts on internationalism and Reform and Opening-up
  7. Mao Zedong's thoughts on ideology and Reform and Opening-up
  8. Mao Zedong's view of the people and the "people-centered" [2] approach
  9. Mao Zedong's thoughts on opening to the outside world and their implications
  10. The guiding significance of Mao Zedong Thought for the New Era

The forum operates on a "participation by paper" basis. We hereby solicit papers from experts, scholars, and teaching and research personnel nationwide engaged in the study of Mao Zedong Thought. Submitted papers should follow the theme and the aforementioned topics with a self-selected title, while adhering to the correct political orientation. Papers must be unpublished research findings and comply with academic standards. In general, papers should not exceed 8,000 characters (including notes), and should include 3–5 keywords and an abstract under 300 characters. Citations and historical data must be accurate and rigorous, with sources clearly indicated (formatted as footnotes). Please include a brief author biography, email address, and contact telephone number at the end of the text.

After the papers pass the initial screening, the Forum Preparatory Group will issue invitation letters to the selected authors before the end of March.
