Call for Papers: The 5th National Forum on Marxist Economics and the 6th Symposium of the National Youth Forum on Marxist Economics

In-depth study of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech at the Symposium on Philosophy and Social Sciences [1], and adhering to the guiding role of Marxism in the development of Chinese philosophy and social sciences, is the key to the current development of 21st-century Marxist political economy and Political Economy of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics. To this end, the 5th National Forum on Marxist Economics and the 6th Seminar of the National Young Scholars Forum on Marxist Economics are scheduled to be held at Hebei University of Economics and Business from October 28–29, 2016. This forum is hosted by the Academic Division of Marxist Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Office of the Marxist Theoretical Research and Construction Project [2], the Department of Principles of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the CASS Research Center for Economic and Social Development, and Hebei University of Economics and Business; it is organized by the School of Marxism at Hebei University of Economics and Business, and co-organized by the Economic Editorial Department of the Information Center for Social Sciences at Renmin University of China.

This forum will focus closely on the theme of "Constructing the Disciplinary System, Textbook System, Categorical System, Methodological System, and Discourse System [3] of 21st-Century Marxist Political Economy." Grounded in the holistic achievements of the development of philosophy and social sciences, and systematically retracing the classic texts of Marx and Engels, the forum puts forward the following key topics that should be emphasized in the development of 21st-century political economy:

  1. Research on the classic texts of Marx and Engels on political economy.
  2. Systematic research on the Political Economy of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics.
  3. Critical research on foreign Marxist political economy and contemporary capitalism.
  4. Comparative research between Marxist political economy and mainstream Western economics.
  5. Research on the application of Marxist political economy and contemporary practical issues.

The forum will also feature a special "Social Perspective" salon for exchanges with editorial departments, establishing a platform for young scholars to communicate with core journals and professional media.

We welcome submissions from teaching and research personnel in national scientific research institutions, universities, and other units, as well as governing members of this forum. The forum preparatory group will select participants from the submitted papers and issue official invitation letters. The submission deadline is September 20, 2016. Selected papers will be recommended to important journals such as Marxism Studies (《马克思主义研究》), Teaching and Research (《教学与研究》), Journal of School of Shanghai Economics (《海派经济学》), China Review of Political Economy (《政治经济学评论》), Studies on Chinese Socialism (《中国特色社会主义研究》), Red Flag Manuscript (《红旗文稿》), and Journal of Hebei University of Economics and Business (《河北经贸大学学报》).

No conference fee will be charged for this meeting. Transportation, accommodation, and other expenses during the conference shall be borne by the participants.
