Call for Papers: The 8th National Forum on Marxian Economics and the 9th National Youth Forum on Marxian Economics
To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, to comprehensively organize and summarize the developmental course and significant contributions of Marxist political economy in China, to accurately position the temporal coordinates of world economic development, and to further promote the construction of socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics and the enrichment and expansion of Marxist political economy theory, the 8th National Forum on Marxist Economics and the 9th National Youth Forum on Marxist Economics are scheduled to be held at Southwest University from September 27–29, 2019.
This forum will closely revolve around the theme of "The 70th Anniversary of the Founding of New China and the Development and Significant Contributions of Marxist Political Economy," focusing on the following topics:
- Research on Xi Jinping Thought on Economy for a New Era.
- Research on the fundamental theories of Marxist political economy and their contemporary value.
- The Sinicization of Marxist political economy since the founding of New China.
- Research on the historical transitions and basic experiences of China's economic development since the founding of New China.
- Research on the "transformation of globalization," the temporal positioning of China's economic development, and related strategies.
- Political economy research on the international economic landscape and new changes in contemporary capitalism.
- World Review of Political Economy and research on foreign Marxist economics.
- Research on other significant issues in Marxist political economy.
The forum plans to adopt a "1+4+3" model for exchange and discussion: specifically, one keynote plenary report, four sub-forum report sessions, and three academic exchange sessions (A Dialogue for Youth Scholars, an Exchange on Disciplinary Construction and Youth Development in Political Economy, and an Exchange between Academic Journals and Youth Scholars).
We welcome active submissions from researchers in national scientific research institutions, institutions of higher education, and Party and government departments. We also encourage and support active submissions from master's and doctoral students interested in Marxist political economy. After passing the peer-review process, formal invitation letters will be sent out at the end of August.
Submitted papers must be original, unpublished works. The deadline for submission is July 1, 2019. Please send the electronic version of your paper to the forum’s public mailbox at bqm_2013@163.com (Liu Daoyi, Institute of Marxism Studies, CASS), and simultaneously CC the mailbox wf277@163.com (Wang Feng, School of Marxism, Southwest University). Papers must include an abstract, keywords, author biography, contact phone number, and email address.
The forum will convene a review meeting and a session for the adjustment and recruitment of board members (see Appendices 1 and 2 for specific details).
The review meeting will deliberate on the submitted papers. The reviewers will primarily consist of experts in the field, heads of core journals, and members of the forum secretariat. Outstanding submitted papers will be recommended to relevant major journals such as Marxist Studies, Teaching and Research, World Review of Political Economy, Political Economy Research, Contemporary Economic Research, Review of Political Economy, Economist, Studies on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Red Flag Manuscript [1], Reform, and Western Forum.
No registration fee will be charged for this meeting. Transportation and accommodation expenses during the meeting are to be covered by the participants.

Appendix 1: Introduction to the National Youth Forum on Marxist Economics
In order to further promote exchange and cooperation among young Marxist economic scholars, to open up and innovate the problematic horizons and ideological methods of Marxist economics, and simultaneously to build a platform for young scholars to demonstrate their talents and disseminate ideas, the National Youth Forum on Marxist Economics is hereby held with the support of relevant teaching and research units across the country. The forum is held annually; the time and location will be announced through relevant media. Speakers at the meeting are to be young scholars (aged 45 and under) in the field of Marxist economics.
The forum consists of academic advisors, a board of directors, a secretariat, and an executive committee. Academic advisors are responsible for grasping the developmental direction of the forum and providing general academic guidance on themes and formats. The board of directors is the decision-making body, responsible for determining significant matters such as the forum theme, timing, and location. The secretariat is responsible for academic liaison, general planning, and coordination. The executive committee is the implementation body, responsible for the specific meeting format and logistical work.
The forum secretariat is located in the Department of Principles Research of the Institute of Marxism Studies, CASS, one of the founding units. The permanent secretary-general is served by personnel from the Department of Principles Research. The forum’s executive committee features one rotating chairperson, who is nominated by the host unit of the annual forum. The permanent secretary-general is responsible for convening and presiding over daily meetings and other routine work. The rotating chairperson is responsible for the logistics of the current forum’s executive committee and assists in the rollout of the next forum's logistics, primarily coordinating with the board of directors to determine themes and timing, and advancing related forum work.
Appendix 2: Notice on the Adjustment and Recruitment of Board Members for the National Youth Forum on Marxist Economics
In accordance with the plan to adjust the board of directors every three years, the National Youth Forum on Marxist Economics will carry out the adjustment and recruitment of board members in 2019 to form the third board of directors. Adhering to the principle of openness, the forum welcomes applications from researchers in scientific research institutions, institutions of higher education, and Party and government departments who are committed to Marxist political economy research, can actively participate in various academic exchange activities of the forum, and are aged 45 or under (inclusive). Applicants must fill out the "Application Form for Board Member of the National Youth Forum on Marxist Economics" (see table below; existing board members do not need to fill this out) and send it along with their submitted paper to the submission emails (bqm_2013@163.com, wf277@163.com). The application deadline is July 1, 2019. After review and approval by the forum secretariat and the executive committee, the list of board members will be announced at the 9th Forum.
