Call for Papers: The 14th National Forum for Young Scholars of Marxism

The year 2021 is a landmark year; our Party celebrates its centenary, and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation has entered a critical period. Over the past century, the Communist Party of China has made great contributions to the people, the nation, the country, and the world that are inscribed in the annals of history [1]. In order to deeply study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the Party History Learning and Education Mobilization Conference, to draw wisdom and strength for the journey ahead from the Party’s hundred-year history, and to promote mutual learning and exchange among young Marxist scholars nationwide, the 14th National Forum for Young Marxist Scholars will be held in Guangzhou from October 15–17, 2021 (tentative). The forum is co-hosted by the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Sun Yat-sen University, and co-organized by the editorial department of Marxism Studies (Makezhuyijiu Yanjiu) and the School of Marxism at Sun Yat-sen University. We are now soliciting papers from young scholars nationwide engaged in the research and teaching of Marxist theory.

(1) Forum Theme Marxism and the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China

(2) Forum Topics

  1. Research on General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important thoughts on Party building and organizational work.
  2. Research on General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on Party history.
  3. The 100 years of the Communist Party of China and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
  4. The 100 years of the Communist Party of China and the Sinicization of Marxism.
  5. Research on the theory and practice of the Communist Party of China's long-term governance.
  6. Research on the hundred-year history of the Communist Party of China's struggle.
  7. Research on the self-construction of the Communist Party of China over the past century.
  8. Research on the systems and mechanisms for the Communist Party of China to maintain its everlasting vitality.
  9. Research on the historical mission of the Communist Party of China in the New Era.
  10. Promoting research on the theory and practice of the "Four Histories" [2] education.

II. Time and Location

Time: October 15–17, 2021 (tentative). For the specific time, please follow the "Marxism Studies" (马克思主义研究) WeChat public account, the "Marxism Studies" Xuexi Qiangguo [3] account, and the "Marxism Studies Website" (myy.cass.cn). Location: School of Marxism, Sun Yat-sen University (Guangzhou).

III. Participation Method

Participation is based on paper submission. Following an expert review of the submissions, invitation letters will be sent to selected participants.

IV. Submission Requirements

  1. Submission deadline: June 1, 2021.
  2. Papers should preferably be between 10,000 and 15,000 characters in length, with a distinct theme, correct viewpoints, and clear argumentation. They should demonstrate academic rigor and innovation and must not have been previously published.
  3. The main text should be preceded by an abstract (approx. 300 characters), keywords (3–5), and a brief author biography (name, gender, age, work unit, professional title, position, contact address, phone number, and email). The formatting of the main text should refer to the submission style of Marxism Studies.

VI. Special Forum Activities

  1. Paper Awards: 1 First Prize, 2 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes, and 4 Honorable Mentions will be awarded, along with prize money and certificates.
  2. A "Face-to-Face" session between the editorial department of Marxism Studies and young scholars.
  3. Invitations to outstanding young scholars who have published papers in Marxism Studies to deliver reports.
