Introduction to the Western Marxism Research Office

The Department of Western Marxist Studies is affiliated with the Division of Overseas Marxist Studies at the Institute of Marxism Studies ^[1] of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). It is primarily engaged in academic research related to Western Marxism, including studies on the Frankfurt School’s critical theory, ecological Marxism, feminist Marxism, and critiques of contemporary capitalism, among others. The department currently comprises six researchers, all of whom hold doctoral degrees. They possess prominent foreign language advantages and exhibit strong capabilities in academic research, the translation and compilation of major works, and international exchange.

Members of the department participate in numerous CASS Innovation Projects ^[2] as well as various research projects within the Institute of Marxism Studies. Currently, they are focused on the translation and compilation of the "World Marxism and Left-Wing Translation Series" and the "World Marxism and Left-Wing Monograph Series," as well as the writing of the eighth volume of the History of the Development of Marxism. Some researchers undertake projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China and the CASS Foundational Scholar Research Program, while also carrying out teaching responsibilities at the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The disciplinary construction ^[3] of the Department of Western Marxist Studies is being progressively refined, creating a positive synergy between disciplinary development and the cultivation of talent.
