Introduction to the Ideology and Social Trends Research Office
The Ideology and Social Trends Research Office currently consists of five researchers, comprising two Researchers, two Associate Researchers, and one Assistant Researcher. Among the faculty are one doctoral supervisor and two master's supervisors. The current Director of the Research Office is Liu Xukuan.
This Research Office primarily engages in the study of the basic theories of the Sinicization of Marxism, foundational theories of ideology, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The Research Office persists in upholding absolute loyalty to the Party as the primary political character of philosophy and social science researchers, taking Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as the banner and soul of research into ideology and cultural security. It actively coordinates with the work arrangements of the CPC Central Committee and various ministries and commissions, undertaking and participating in the analysis and assessment of the national cultural security and ideological construction situation. Furthermore, it actively cooperates with the Party Leadership Group of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the functional bureaus of CASS, and the Party Committee of the Institute of Marxism Studies to successfully carry out ideology-related work.
The Research Office has undertaken one General Project of the National Social Science Fund and two Post-funded Projects of the National Social Science Fund (one of which has been concluded, while two are ongoing). Members of the Research Office have participated in more than 30 major research projects and special commissions assigned or entrusted by the General Office of the CPC Central Committee [1], national ministries and commissions, the Marxism Theoretical Research and Construction Project [2], the National Office for Philosophy and Social Sciences, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. This Research Office edits the internal publication Ideological Study Materials on a quarterly basis.
Representative monographs produced by the Research Office include: Research on Plato's Ethical Thought; The Fundamental Motive Force of State Governance; Nothing is Established Without Sincerity, Rectitude, and Trustworthiness [3]; The Modernization of the State Governance System and Governance Capacity; Research on the Marxist View of Ecology; Civilizational Navigation of Chinese-path Modernization; Ideological Competition in Science and Technology; The Ladder of Human Progress: Establishing a Correct Outlook on Civilization; Cloud Innovation: The Innovation Model of the 21st Century; and Ancient Dao for Modernity: The Modernization of Daoist Philosophy and Cultural Construction in the New Era. Representative research findings of the Office include: "Research on the Essential Connotations, Challenges, and New Era Construction Paths of the Party's Cultural Leadership"; "Reasons for and Responses to the Transformation of the Principal Contradiction in Chinese Society in the New Era"; "A Marxist Judgment on the Connotation and Role of Science and Technology Ideology"; "Ten Frontier Issues of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era (2024)"; "Enlightenment within the Revolution: People's Awakening, People's Democracy, and Social Transformation—A Critique of the 'National Salvation Overriding Enlightenment' Thesis" [4]; "The Essence of the Times in Chinese Culture and the Chinese Spirit: Historical Logic, Characteristics of the Era, and Scientific Connotation"; and "The Wind Comes from the East: The Influence of the Chinese Style on European Court Art."
Major awards received by the researchers of this office include: three Special Prizes, one First Prize, six Third Prizes, and six Excellence Awards of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Award for Outstanding Policy Information. [5]
