Center for Contemporary Theoretical Trends, Academy of Marxism, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences
The Center for the Study of Contemporary Theoretical Trends of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Institute of Marxism Studies (hereafter referred to as "the Center") is a non-standing research center [1] under the supervision of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies. It was established in June 2010, originally as the "Center for Contemporary Theoretical Trends of the CASS Institute of Information and Intelligence." Subsequently, in accordance with the spirit [2] of the document issued by the CASS Bureau of Scientific Research Administration on December 11, 2020, the supervisory unit was changed to the Institute of Marxism Studies, and the name was accordingly changed to the "Center for the Study of Contemporary Theoretical Trends of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies."
Since its inception, the Center has consistently and strictly followed the relevant regulations of the state and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to actively carry out its activities. It has fundamentally achieved its mission to "organize relevant high-level experts and scholars to study major theoretical developments and trends both domestically and abroad, in order to serve the construction of the socialist core value system and the adherence to and development of socialism with Chinese characteristics."
Under the guidance of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the direct leadership of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the Center conducts its work in accordance with national laws and regulations as well as the Management Measures for Non-Standing Research Centers of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The Center serves the fundamental positioning of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences as a strong fortress for Marxist research, the highest academic temple of philosophy and social sciences, and a think tank and brain trust [3] for the Party Central Committee and the State Council. Its aims are: to advance disciplinary construction and development; to organize and coordinate scholars within and outside the Academy to carry out academic exchanges and cooperation; to actively seek financial support; and to contribute to the prosperity of our country's philosophy and social sciences.
The primary scope of the Center's operations includes: tracking and studying contemporary world theoretical trends and publishing high-quality research findings; undertaking research projects assigned by both the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies; applying for theoretical research projects related to the Center's positioning and aims; and keeping close track of the theoretical frontier and practical hot-button issues to conduct policy-advisory research [4] and submit research results in a timely manner.
