An Introduction to the Research Department of the History of Marxist Development
The Department for the Study of the History of Marxist Development currently has seven scientific research staff members. Primary Research Fields: The history of Marxist development encompasses both the history of the emergence and formation of Marxism, and the history of the developed Marxism which, taking the basic principles of Marxism as its core, has been continuously endowed with new content in accordance with changing epochal and national conditions. This includes, for instance, Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Important Thought of the "Three Represents" [1], the Scientific Outlook on Development [2], and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Therefore, studying the history of Marxist development involves researching and revealing the internal logic of the evolution of Marxism from the day of its birth to the present. The study of this history facilitates the advancement of in-depth research into Marxist theory, promotes research into the integration of Marxist theory with the actualities of China and other countries throughout the world, and furthers the in-depth study of a series of major theoretical issues concerning socialism with Chinese characteristics.
As a discipline, the history of Marxist development primarily investigates the historical processes and laws [3] of the emergence and development of Marxism. Its disciplinary scope mainly includes research into the lives, thoughts, and works of classical Marxist authors; the general history of Marxism; the history of Marxism within specific countries and stages; thematic histories of Marxism; the history of the dissemination of Marxism; and Marxist philology, among others.
Currently, the department is responsible for the construction of the "History of Marxist Development" as a Key Discipline of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). By integrating various talents from across CASS and the Institute of Marxism Studies, it plans to launch a CASS edition of the History of Marxist Development. This research project highlights the distinct research characteristics and advantages of CASS in the field of the history of Marxist development, aiming to build the academic brand of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies. It seeks not only to achieve breakthroughs at the academic level of the history of Marxist development and promote the advancement of the discipline, but also to further clarify certain erroneous understandings of Marxism through holistic research. By deepening the understanding of the essence of Marxism, the project aims to better apply Marxism to guide the practice of reform and development.

Primary Research Projects: Research into the history of Marxist development is not merely for the purpose of organizing past history; more importantly, it is oriented toward the contemporary world, providing guidance for upholding and developing Marxism within the new period and under new circumstances.
