Head of the Department: Zhang Fujun Of these: Researcher (Professor): Hou Weimin Associate Researchers (Associate Professors): Zhang Fujun, Chen Renjiang Assistant Researchers (Assistant Professors): Cui Yun, Li Yan

Primary Research Fields: The academic research of the Department of Marxist Political Economy relies on the support of the Institute of Marxism Studies (CASS), an institution possessing national first-class academic research capabilities, and the Department of Marxist Principles, which holds a position of disciplinary excellence. Utilizing the methods of dialectical materialism and historical materialism, the department emphasizes the integration of foundational research with practical innovation, the combination of logical and historical analysis, and the synthesis of textual interpretation with theoretical innovation. Our work prioritizes research into the basic theories, perspectives, and methods of Marxist political economy; the holistic study of the dialectical unity between the three components of Marxism—Marxist philosophy, political economy, and scientific socialism; and the application of the scientific principles of Marxist political economy to clarify erroneous viewpoints that represent distortions, misinterpretations, biases, or even perversions [1] of Marxism.

Key Research Projects: Relying on projects such as the Innovation Project [2], and based on the specialized expertise of our researchers in political economy, the department focuses on the following subjects: First, strengthening the study of classic Marxist texts, striving for innovation and the production of high-quality scholarly works. Second, strengthening the holistic study of the internal unity of the three components of Marxism: philosophy, political economy, and scientific socialism. Third, strengthening the study of the political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics, exploring the laws governing the development and operation of the modern socialist economy, and attending to the major theoretical and practical achievements of the economic reform and development of socialism with Chinese characteristics, thereby demonstrating Marxism’s contemporary explanatory power and vitality.
