The Ideological and Political Education Research Office currently consists of three researchers, including one Research Fellow, two Assistant Research Fellows, and one Master's supervisor. The current Director of the Research Office is Liu Ailing.
The Ideological and Political Education Research Office was established in 2009. Building upon the Research Office, the discipline of Ideological and Political Education [1] was established in 2011 and designated as one of the key construction disciplines. The Ideological and Political Education Research Office is committed to "researching the fundamental theory of Marxist ideological and political education and major practical issues in the ideological and theoretical spheres." It seeks to achieve an organic integration of basic theoretical research and practical problem research, striving to fulfill its role in academic research, theoretical dissemination, and policy research. Leveraging the profound resources of the Institute of Marxism Studies and the Department of Sinicization, the research office has achieved significant results in academic research and disciplinary construction, gradually forming its own unique advantages.
The office’s personnel delve deeply into the ideological and political education thoughts found within the Marxist classics. Through the study, investigation, and learning of original Marxist works, they explore fundamental questions such as the essence, objectives, principles, and methods of ideological and political education, thereby further solidifying the Marxist theoretical foundation for the study of the discipline. The office has undertaken more than 20 national and provincial/ministerial-level major and general projects, including major projects of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Marxism Theory Research and Construction Project (Ma-Gong-Cheng [2]), Major National Think Tank projects, CASS major investigative research projects, National Social Science Fund projects, the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" projects of the National Press and Publication Administration, and Humanities and Social Sciences research projects of the Ministry of Education. It has published over 30 academic monographs and research collections, and has completed the annual writing of the Yearbook of Ideological and Political Education, frontier reports, and academic development summaries. It has published over a hundred academic papers and theoretical articles in major national newspapers and journals such as Marxism Studies, Studies on Chinese Characteristics Socialism, Journal of Ideological & Theoretical Education Management, People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, and Red Flag Manuscript [3]. Some of these have been excerpted in Xinhua Digest and Marxism Digest, and many have been reprinted in full by the Renmin University of China Information Center for Postgraduate Literature and major online media.
Primary representative achievements include:
- The Ideological and Political Education Research Series: Since 2011, one volume has been published annually, totaling thirteen volumes. These primarily focus on the research results of renowned experts, leading scholars, and young researchers concerning the hot-button issues and difficulties of the year within the field of ideological and political education, particularly at time nodes [4] of great historical significance. The thirteen volumes have published nearly 400 highly influential research outputs, garnering significant national influence.
This Research Office has won seven CASS Awards for Excellent Policy Research and two First Prizes in the Beijing Young Teachers' Social Investigation Project.
The Research Office specifically organizes the annual National Academic Symposium on Ideological and Political Education. Founded in 2011 and held annually, the symposium has been successfully convened fourteen times. Over the past fourteen years, with the support and assistance of CASS leadership and friends from various sectors, and through the unremitting efforts of the disciplinary staff, the symposium has developed into one of the most important academic conferences characterized by high specifications, broad participation, and significant influence. For fourteen years, the symposium has played an important role in disseminating and interpreting the Party's major theoretical innovations, advancing the practical creation of ideological and political education, and promoting the development of the discipline: first, it has witnessed the process of the Party's theoretical innovation through academic exchange and recorded the developmental trajectory of ideological and political education; second, it has innovated conference models to achieve an effective combination of scientific research, practical teaching, interpretative dissemination, and decision-making services; third, it has built a platform for academic exchange in the form of academic conferences, playing a role in strengthening cooperation and exchange within the field; fourth, it has gathered the views of renowned masters through academic conferences to promote the academic development of ideological and political education. In the past five years, nearly one hundred nationally renowned experts in the field have been invited to exchange and deliberate on the year's hot-button issues and difficulties. Over the same period, nearly a thousand doctoral, master's, and undergraduate students have participated in the forum, providing students with a high-end exchange platform and playing an important role in strengthening the construction of the disciplinary system, academic system, and discourse system [5] of the ideological and political education discipline.
