Announcement of Changes to the Second Call for Excellent Special Courses on Deng Xiaoping

In order to further and deeply implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Party and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and to grandly commemorate the 40th anniversary of Reform and Opening-up [1], the organizers have decided after research—based on work requirements—to modify certain matters regarding the solicitation of the 2nd Deng Xiaoping Special Excellent Courses (the modified parts are underlined). The announcement is as follows:

I. Requirements for Course Solicitation (A) Content Requirements Special topics should be determined by focusing primarily on the revolutionary style of Comrade Deng Xiaoping as summarized in General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech at the symposium commemorating the 110th anniversary of Comrade Deng Xiaoping’s birth. Specific reference can be made to the following titles (if choosing a self-selected title, it must be approved by the organizers):

  1. Deng Xiaoping’s firm ideals and convictions.
  2. Deng Xiaoping’s theoretical character of seeking truth from facts, or the ideological characteristics of Deng Xiaoping’s seeking truth from facts.
  3. Deng Xiaoping’s political courage in pioneering and innovation, or Deng Xiaoping’s leadership style in pioneering and innovation.
  4. Deng Xiaoping’s far-sighted strategic thinking.
  5. Deng Xiaoping’s broad and selfless mind, or Deng Xiaoping’s broad and selfless personal charisma.

(B) Course Requirements Applicants must provide a written manuscript of over 10,000 words, as well as a multimedia courseware (slideshow) of no fewer than 50 pages. (To facilitate review, manuscripts and courseware should be submitted in Word and PPT formats respectively).

(C) Applicant Requirements Applicants must meet at least one of the following conditions:

  1. Possess a doctoral degree;
  2. Hold a professional technical title of associate professor or above;
  3. Hold a leadership position at the deputy county (division) level [2] or above;
  4. Have previously won a provincial-level or higher "Excellent Course" award, or a first prize or higher in a provincial-level teaching competition.

II. Solicitation Procedures and Methods In early October 2018, the organizers will hire relevant experts to conduct a blind review of the quality of the manuscripts and courseware and determine the list of lecturers; in mid-October, a full 2-hour lecture will be delivered; the grade of the Excellent Course will be determined based on the scores from the blind review and the on-site lecture. (The organizers will record the entire lecture).

III. Award Methods (A) There will be one First Prize, two Second Prizes, and two Third Prizes. Awards of 35,000 RMB, 20,000 RMB, and 15,000 RMB will be granted for the First, Second, and Third prizes respectively, along with the issuance of an Excellent Course award certificate. Based on the opinions of the judges, awards may be left vacant. (B) Inter-city round-trip transportation expenses incurred by the applicants for the lectures will be reimbursed by the organizers according to standards.

IV. Ownership of Intellectual Property Rights (A) The organizers will designate a specific person to receive and keep the applicants' course materials. Following the expert blind review, materials for courses that do not proceed to the on-site lecture will be returned to the applicants by the designated person. For courses that proceed to the on-site lecture but do not win an award, materials will be returned to the applicants by the designated person after the event concludes. (B) Upon receiving the award, winners of the prize-winning courses shall sign an intellectual property ownership agreement with the institutions. The ownership of the manuscripts, courseware, and lecture videos shall belong to the Deng Xiaoping Urban-Rural Development Academy and the Party School of the CPC Guangan Municipal Committee.

V.
