Notice of the 5th National Forum on Foreign Marxism Studies (2018)

Dear Madam/Sir:

In order to profoundly study and implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the CPC [1] and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, to deepen research on foreign Marxism, to strengthen the teaching and disciplinary development of Marxist theory, to track and grasp the latest progress and dynamics in foreign Marxist studies, to innovatively develop contemporary Marxist theory, to further advance the contemporary Sinicization of Marxism, and to actively respond to the opportunities and challenges facing contemporary China and human development, the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Guangxi Normal University are jointly hosting the "5th National Forum on Foreign Marxist Research (2018)."

I. Forum Theme and Topics (1) Forum Theme: Foreign Marxist Research and the Construction of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the New Era

(2) Forum Topics:

  1. Foreign research on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era
  2. Foreign Marxist research and national governance
  3. Foreign Marxist research and global governance
  4. Research on the thought of a community with a shared future for humanity
  5. Research on foreign leftist trends of thought striving for peace and socialism
  6. Research on new developments in the theory and practice of foreign Communist Parties
  7. Other issues related to foreign Marxist research, including but not limited to: the history and current status of foreign Marxist research in China, various schools of foreign Marxism, the thought of representative figures in foreign Marxism, thematic studies on foreign Marxism, etc.

II. Forum Time and Location (1) Time: October 29–31, 2018 (2) Location: Guangxi Normal University

III. Conference Papers To ensure the success of this forum, we welcome active submissions from experts and scholars at social science academies, scientific research institutions, institutions of higher education, Party schools, academies of governance, military academies, and related research fields across the country.

(1) Paper Requirements:

  • Papers must adhere to the Marxist standpoint, viewpoint, and method [2]; they must closely follow the theme and topics, highlighting ideological, academic, and practical qualities.
  • Papers must be original achievements that have not been publicly published.
  • For the format and style of papers, annotations, and references, please refer to the journal Marxist Studies (Marxisim Yanjiu).
  • Length should be approximately 6,000 characters.
  • The author's name, unit, position/title, and contact information must be provided at the end of the text.

(2) Deadline: The deadline for papers is September 30, 2018. When submitting, please send the electronic version of the paper (paper manuscripts are not accepted) to the email: gwmkszy2018@163.com. The format for the email subject is: Paper Title + Work Unit + Name.

We will organize experts to review the papers and will send electronic versions of formal invitations to selected authors by October 10; hard copies of the formal invitations will be distributed upon registration. A collection of papers will be published after the conference.

IV. Conference Expenses This forum does not charge a conference fee; participants are responsible for their own round-trip transportation and accommodation expenses.
