Notice of the 2018 Annual Academic Conference and the 5th General Assembly of the Chinese Atheism Society

The report of the 19th National Congress of the Party ^[1] pointed out that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a New Era. During the National Religious Work Conference in 2016, General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech provided a profound exposition on adhering to and propagating Marxist atheism, which has become an important component of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

In order to deeply study and implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress and to fulfill General Secretary Xi Jinping’s instructions and requirements regarding adhering to and propagating Marxist atheism, the Chinese Atheism Society (中国无神论学会), following a study by the Chairperson’s Office, has decided to hold the 2018 Annual Academic Conference in Beijing from December 1st to 2nd. This annual conference will be jointly organized by the Chinese Atheism Society and the Science and Atheism Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).

Simultaneously, in accordance with the Society’s articles of association, the Chinese Atheism Society intends to convene the 5th Membership Representative Congress during the 2018 Annual Academic Conference to conduct the election of new leadership ^[2].

The annual conference adopts a format that combines invitations to renowned experts with participation via paper submission. We welcome the Society’s directors, as well as experts and scholars who care for, support, and engage in atheism research and propaganda-education, to actively write papers for the conference focusing on the themes. The relevant matters of the conference are hereby notified as follows:

1. Conference Time: December 1–2, 2018
2. Conference Location: To be determined
3. Conference Theme: The Mission and Tasks of Atheism in the New Era
4. Conference Content: (1) Annual academic report sessions; (2) Election work for the renewal of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Atheism Society.
5. Deadlines: (1) Please complete the attached receipt and send it via email to w8078@sina.com by October 25th. (2) Please submit your paper or speech outline by November 20th (please send an electronic version to the aforementioned email address).
6. Other Matters: (1) Accommodation and meal expenses during the conference will be provided by the organizers (for representatives from the Beijing area, overnight accommodation is generally not arranged).
