Call for Papers: Symposium on "Studies of Marxist Classics"

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and to advance theoretical research activities focused on "Attending to the Classics, Researching the Classics," the Forum on the Laws of Development of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics is scheduled to solemnly convene a seminar on the "Study of Classical Marxist Works" in Beijing this autumn. We are now publicly soliciting high-quality conference papers from the community under the theme "Return to the Classics: Marx."

This seminar focuses on Marx's thought. Grounded in the classical works of Marx, it will carry out in-depth research centered on historical materialism, historical dialectics, the problem of alienation, ideology, social formations, and the theory of surplus value, thereby further deepening our understanding of Marxism. Following the synthesis of the experience gained from this conference, research activities concerning other classical authors and related themes will be progressively initiated.

The classical works of Marxism are the source of the Party’s thought, the foundation of its theory, the root of its methodology, and the essence of its faith.

By returning to the classics, tracing the trajectory of the development of thought, and seeking the points of convergence between history and reality, we ensure that the classical works are "always read, and always new" [1]. This practice allows us to enter the context of the works—as if being there in person [2]—providing inspiration and wisdom. It is our hope that this seminar will achieve a close-range dialogue between history and reality, and we expect such a dialogue to become the "new normal" in Marxist studies.

Admission to the seminar is based on paper submission. To improve the efficiency of the meeting and to conduct discussions and exchanges with a concentrated focus, participants are requested to select their own perspectives and titles based on the aforementioned themes. Papers should be approximately 10,000 characters in length and must adhere to academic norms.
