Call for Papers: "Chinese Marxist Economics: 70-Year Review and Outlook" — The 29th Annual Meeting of the China Society of Political Economy and the 22nd Seminar of the China School of Economics Forum

The year 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. To review and summarize the experiences of the dissemination, research, and development of Marxist political economy in China, to promote the interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialist Economy with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, to further advance theoretical innovation in political economy with Chinese characteristics, and to encourage the prosperity of schools of Marxist economics both in China and abroad, the China Association of Political Economy (CAPE; formerly the China Association for Systematic Research on Socialist Economic Laws [1], renamed with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs) and the Research Center for Hai-Pai [2] Economics at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics intend to hold the 29th Annual Conference at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) from June 1st to 2nd, 2019 (weekend). The conference is co-organized by the CASS Research Center for Economic and Social Development and the Department of Principles of the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS.

With the theme "Chinese Marxist Economics: 70 Years of Retrospect and Prospect," this conference will focus on discussing the following topics:

  1. The process and experience of the Sinicization of Marxist economics.
  2. The innovative development of Marxist economics in China over the past 70 years.
  3. Research on Xi Jinping Thought on Socialist Economy with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
  4. Academic development and policy research on socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics.
  5. A political economy interpretation of China's move toward the center of the world stage.
  6. Developments and changes in the methods, categories, discourses, principles, and systems of Marxist political economy.
  7. Exploration of basic theories regarding contemporary monopoly capitalist political economy.
  8. Scientific critique, reference, and transcendence of Western economics by Chinese and foreign political economy.
  9. Exploration of schools of Marxist economics in China and abroad.
  10. The current status and trends in the development of world political economy.

We now sincerely invite teaching and research personnel from national research institutions, institutions of higher education, and members of this Association to submit papers. Manuscript requirements are as follows:

(1) The theme should be distinct, the argumentation clear, and the content should reflect academic rigor and innovation. (2) Citations must be standardized, quotations accurate, and sources noted at the bottom of the page. (3) The main text of the paper should be preceded by an abstract (approximately 500 words), keywords (3–5), a brief biography of the author, and detailed contact information. (4) The deadline for submission is May 5, 2019. Formal invitations to participate in the conference will be sent to selected authors before May 10.

Selected papers will be considered for the Association's Excellent Paper Award for this year and will be compiled into a volume for publication by Economic Science Press. Excellent papers may be recommended to the journals Marxist Studies (Mǎkèsī zhǔyì yánjiū), Journal of Political Economy (Zhèngzhì jīngjì xué yánjiū, hosted by the Association), and Hai-Pai Economics (Hǎipài jīngjì xué, quarterly).
