Call for Papers: 2019 National Academic Symposium on Ideological and Political Education

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China, to review and summarize the achievements and experiences of ideological and political education [1] in our country, to promote the in-depth study of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and to implement the spirit of the National Education Conference, the National Conference on Public Publicity and Ideological Work, and the Symposium for Teachers of School Ideological and Political Theory Courses, the "2019 National Academic Seminar on Ideological and Political Education" is scheduled to be held from October 12–13, 2019, in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, to promote the innovative development of ideological and political education in the New Era. The conference is hosted by the Institute of Marxism Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Harbin Engineering University; it is organized by the Department of Principles of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies and the School of Marxism at Harbin Engineering University. Publications and media outlets including Marxism Studies (Makesizhuyi yanjiu), Ideological & Theoretical Education (Sixiang lilun jiaoyu), Studies in Ideological and Political Education (Sixiang zhengzhi jiaoyu yanjiu), Chinese Social Sciences Today (Zhongguo shehui kexue bao), and the Chinese Social Sciences Net (cssn.cn) will attend.

I. Conference Theme Theory and Practice of Ideological and Political Education during the 70 Years of New China.

II. Main Topics

  1. Innovation and development of the theory of ideological and political education during the 70 years of New China;
  2. The history and experience of teaching ideological and political theory courses during the 70 years of New China;
  3. Research on strengthening the cohesive and leading power of socialist ideology in the New Era;
  4. Research on the "Three Entries" [2] of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era;
  5. Research on enhancing the "Six Essential Qualities" [3] that teachers of ideological and political theory courses should possess;
  6. New missions and new requirements for ideological and political education in the New Era;
  7. Innovation in methods and approaches for ideological and political education in the New Era;
  8. International comparisons and lessons for ideological and political education in the New Era, etc.

III. Conference Schedule Registration on October 11, 2019; sessions on October 12 and the morning of the 13th; departure the afternoon of the 13th or morning of the 14th.

IV. Conference Venue: Harbin Engineering University.

V. Participation in the conference is based on paper submission. Experts and scholars are invited to write papers centered on the conference theme and topics. Paper requirements: (1) Guided by Marxism, with a distinct theme, reflecting academic rigor and innovation; (2) Include an abstract (approx. 400 words), keywords (3–5), a brief author biography (name, gender, affiliation, professional title, and position), and detailed contact information (address, phone, email) preceding the main text; (3) The main text should follow the submission style of Marxism Studies; (4) Word count should be under 8,000 words, requiring standardized citations and accurate quotations.

The deadline for submissions is August 31, 2019.

VI. The organizing committee will issue formal invitations to authors of selected papers. A collection of selected papers will be published after the conference, and outstanding papers will be recommended to participating academic journals.
