2019 Doctoral Program Recruitment Re-examination Scheme and Candidate List of the Department of Marxism Studies, University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (Graduate School)

In accordance with the spirit of the directives from the Ministry of Education and the Beijing Educational Examinations Authority, the Department of Marxism Studies of the University of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (Graduate School) [1] has formulated the following arrangements for the 2019 doctoral candidate re-examination and admission process, based on the specific conditions of this Department:

I. Qualification Review Prior to the re-examination, the Department of Marxism Studies will verify the original copies of the candidates' identity cards, examination permits, degree certificates, and graduation certificates; graduating master's students must present their student ID cards for verification. Those who do not meet the regulations of the Ministry of Education will not be permitted to participate in the re-examination. Candidates found to have provided fraudulent information or committed examination violations or cheating—regardless of when such determination is made—will be handled strictly in accordance with the "Measures for Handling Violations of National Education Examinations" and the "Regulations on the Management of Students in Regular Institutions of Higher Education."

II. Preliminary Examination Score Requirements for Doctoral Candidates Entering Re-examination in the Department of Marxism Studies, 2019 English: no lower than 44 points; Minor Languages: no lower than 60 points; Specialized Subject I: no lower than 60 points; Specialized Subject II: no lower than 65 points; Total Score: no lower than 185 points.

III. Time, Location, and Arrangements for Re-examination

  1. Re-examination Time: Afternoon of May 10, 2019.
  2. Re-examination Location: Conference Room of the Department of Marxism Studies.
  3. Specific requirements and precautions for the re-examination will be communicated to the candidates by the staff of the Department of Marxism Studies via telephone, email, and other means.

IV. Re-examination Assessment Methods The doctoral re-examination employs a "differential re-examination" [2] format. The assessment primarily includes an investigation of the candidate's academic level, an evaluation of ideological and political quality and moral character, and a physical examination.

  1. Investigation of Academic Level The re-examination will be conducted via interview. Based primarily on professional training requirements, the re-examination panel will examine the candidates' ability to comprehensively apply their knowledge and their mastery of frontier knowledge and the latest research trends in the discipline. Referencing the candidates’ application materials, the panel will evaluate whether they possess the potential and comprehensive quality for doctoral cultivation.

  2. Ideological, Political, and Moral Assessment The assessment primarily covers the candidate's political attitude, ideological expression, learning (and working) attitude, moral character, and observance of law and discipline. This assessment is not quantified into the total score; however, those whose assessment result is "unqualified" will not be admitted. The political inquiry [3] will be conducted concurrently with the re-examination period.

  3. Physical Examination The physical examination will be conducted at hospitals designated by the University and must be completed by May 15. Individual candidates requiring further review—particularly those from outside Beijing—should complete their follow-up examinations in a timely manner.

V. Grading and Calculation of Re-examination Results

  1. The total re-examination score is 200 points, with 120 points as the passing grade. Candidates who fail to achieve the passing grade will not be admitted.
  2. The re-examination includes an interview on professional competence (150 points) and a comprehensive foreign language ability test (50 points).

VI. Time and Method of Information Disclosure

  1. Disclosure Timing: The re-examination work plan and the list of candidates will be announced before the re-examination; results will be announced after the re-examination concludes; the list of pre-admitted candidates will be publicized starting from May 24, 2019.

VII. Supervision and Re-consideration of Re-examination The re-examination is conducted under the guidance and supervision of the University and the Department of Marxism Studies Graduate Admissions Re-examination and Admission Leading Group. Candidates with objections to the re-examination results may submit an appeal to the Department's Leading Group before May 20.
