Call for Papers: 2020 National Forum on the Basic Principles of Marxism
The discipline of the basic principles of Marxism is a "preeminent discipline" selected by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) (led by Professor Cheng Enfu and Research Fellow Yu Bin), and is also a Beijing Municipal Key Discipline of the School of Marxism at the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) (approved in 2012). The "National Forum on the Basic Principles of Marxism" conference series in this discipline aims to facilitate exchange and the presentation of achievements among experts and scholars engaged in the research and teaching of the basic principles of Marxism. Its objective is to promote the classical inheritance, innovation, and development of the basic principles of Marxism. The 2020 National Forum on the Basic Principles of Marxism is jointly hosted by the CASS Departmemt of Marxist Studies, the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the Beijing Collaborative Innovation Center for the Theory of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (CUPL), and the School of Marxism at Yan'an University. The forum is scheduled to be held in September 2020, and we sincerely invite colleagues from the national academic community to attend and engage in exchange.
The theme of this year’s symposium is: "Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Engels." Specific topics include: (1) Engels’s great contribution to Marxist theory; (2) Lenin’s theory and its contemporary value (commemorating the 150th anniversary of Lenin’s birth); (3) the significance of Engels’s thought for the times; (4) specialized research on the basic principles of Marxism; (5) discussion on the disciplinary construction of the basic principles of Marxism; (6) the Yan'an Spirit [1] and Red Culture [2]; and so forth.
The symposium operates on the principle of "participation through submission." Experts and scholars intending to attend are requested to write papers centered on the conference theme. Paper formatting should refer to the submission requirements of the journal Marxist Studies (Mǎkèsīzhǔyì Yánjiū). Following the conference, we will select outstanding papers to be published in a conference proceedings volume and recommend them to journals such as Marxist Studies, Studies on Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping Theories, and Contemporary Economic Research. The deadline for paper submissions is August 15, 2020.
