The Basic Socialist Economic System and the Modernization of National Governance: Call for Papers for the 30th Annual Conference of the Chinese Society of Political Economy and the 23rd Symposium of the China Haipai Economics Forum

In order to profoundly study and publicize the spirit of the 19th Party Congress and the Fourth Plenary Session of its 19th Central Committee [1], strengthen the research and interpretation of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialist Economy with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and further promote theoretical innovation in political economy with Chinese characteristics, the 30th Annual Meeting is scheduled to be held in Fuzhou City on June 13–14, 2020 (weekend). The conference is hosted by the China Society of Political Economy (CSPE), the National Research Center of Socialist Political Economy with Chinese Characteristics (Fujian Normal University), and the Academy of Haipai Economics of the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics; it is organized by the School of Economics of Fujian Normal University, and co-organized by the Center for Economic and Social Development of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Department of Basic Principles of the Institute of Marxism Studies at CASS, and the School of Marxism at Fujian Normal University.

The theme of this conference is "The Basic Socialist Economic System and the Modernization of National Governance." Discussion will focus on the following topics:

  1. Basic ideas concerning economic systems in Marxist-Leninist theory and its Sinicization.
  2. Xi Jinping’s discourses on the socialist economic system with Chinese characteristics and its superiorities.
  3. The system of fundamental, basic, and important economic institutions of socialism with Chinese characteristics [2].
  4. The connections and distinctions between the basic socialist economic system and future developmental stages.
  5. How to improve the property rights system centered on public ownership as the mainstay while allowing diverse forms of ownership to develop together.
  6. How to improve the distribution system centered on distribution according to work as the mainstay while multiple modes of distribution coexist.
  7. How to improve the regulatory systems of the socialist market economy.
  8. How to improve an open economic system that is autonomous, efficient, and secure.
  9. How to resolve relative poverty and narrow the gap between rich and poor in the New Era.
  10. The relationship between the system of socialist economic institutions and the modernization of national economic governance.
  11. A comparison between the socialist economic system with Chinese characteristics and Western capitalist economic systems.
  12. A comparison between national governance under socialism with Chinese characteristics and Western capitalist national governance.
  13. Chinese and foreign Marxist political economy and current domestic and international economic trends.
  14. Characteristics and innovations of the New Marxian Economics General School (Haipai Economics [3]).

We cordially invite teaching and research personnel from national research institutions, institutions of higher education, and members of this Society to submit papers. Manuscript requirements are as follows:

(1) The theme should be distinct and the argumentation clear, reflecting continuity, scholarship, and innovation. (2) Citations must be standardized and quotations accurate, with sources noted at the foot of the page. (3) The main text should be preceded by an abstract (approximately 800 characters), a brief author biography, and detailed contact information. (4) The deadline for submissions is May 5, 2020. Formal invitation letters will be sent to selected authors by May 15.

Selected papers will be eligible for the Society’s "Excellent Paper of the Year" award and will be collated into a volume to be published by Economic Science Press. Excellent papers may be recommended to journals such as Marxian Studies, Political Economy Reports, Contemporary Economic Research, and Haipai Economics.
