Call for Papers: The 9th National Forum on Marxian Economics and the 10th National Youth Forum on Marxian Economics

The year 2020 marks the concluding year for the decisive victory in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects [1]. It is an opportune moment to further organize and summarize the guiding experience of Marxist political economy regarding China's economic and social development, to uphold and improve the basic socialist economic system [2], and to continuously enrich and refine the theoretical construction and practical explanation of Marxist political economy. The 9th National Forum on Marxist Economics and the 10th National Youth Forum on Marxist Economics will be held in mid-to-late October 2020 at Liaoning University.

The forum will focus closely on the theme of "Building a Moderately Prosperous Society in All Respects and Upholding and Improving the Basic Socialist Economic System." Research will focus on the following topics:

  1. Textual research on the classic works of Marxist economics.
  2. Foreign Marxist theory and new changes in contemporary capitalism.
  3. Research and development of the history of Marxist economic thought.
  4. Marxist ecological thought and its contemporary value.
  5. The battle against poverty [3] and building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.
  6. Reform of the rural land system and the rural revitalization strategy.
  7. Research on the relationship between the components of the basic socialist economic system, including: the dominance of public ownership with the joint development of multiple forms of ownership; the primacy of distribution according to work with the coexistence of multiple modes of distribution; and the socialist market economy system.
  8. Other major theoretical and practical issues in Marxist political economy.

The forum intends to adopt a "1+4+3" exchange and discussion model: namely, one plenary keynote report; four sub-forum report sessions; and three academic exchange sessions (a youth scholar dialogue, an exchange on political economy disciplinary construction and youth development, and an exchange between academic journals and youth scholars).

Researchers from national research institutions, institutions of higher education, and Party and government departments are welcome to submit papers. Master's and doctoral students interested in Marxist political economy are also encouraged to apply. Upon passing the peer-review process, formal invitation letters will be sent by late August.

Submitted papers must be original, unpublished works. The deadline for submission is July 1, 2020. Please send the electronic version of the paper to the forum’s public mailbox at bqm_2013@163.com (Attn: Liu Daoyi, Institute of Marxism Studies, CASS), with a carbon copy to lnujdzxb@163.com (Attn: Zhang Wei and Zhang Guanghui, School of Economics, Liaoning University). Papers must include an abstract, keywords, author biography, contact phone number, and email address.

The forum will convene a review meeting in July 2020 to deliberate on submitted papers. The review panel will primarily consist of experts in the field, heads of core journals, and members of the forum secretariat. Outstanding papers will be recommended to relevant major journals such as Studies on Marxism, Teaching and Research, World Review of Political Economy, Journal of Political Economy, Contemporary Economic Research, China Review of Political Economy, Economist, Studies on Chinese Socialism, Red Flag Manuscript, Study & Exploration, Economic Review, Reform, and West Forum.

No registration fee will be charged for this conference. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and accommodation expenses.
