Notice of the 2020 National Academic Symposium on Ideological and Political Education

In order to deeply study and implement the spirit of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee and General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on ideological and political work; to realize the spirit of the National Education Conference, the National Conference on Public Communications and Ideological Work, and the Symposium for Teachers of School Ideological and Political Theory Courses; to forge the soul and nurture the person [1] with Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; to promote the innovative development of ideological and political education in the New Era; to effectively improve the effectiveness of ideological and political education; and to cultivate socialist builders and successors with a well-rounded grounding in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education [2], the "2020 National Academic Symposium on Ideological and Political Education" is scheduled to be held in mid-to-late August 2020 in Lanzhou, Gansu Province. The conference is jointly organized by the Institute of Marxism Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Lanzhou University, and it is co-hosted by the Department of Marxist Principles of the CASS Institute of Marxism Studies, the School of Marxism at Lanzhou University, and the Ministry of Education's Innovation and Development Center for Ideological and Political Work in Universities at Lanzhou University.

I. Conference Theme Innovation and Development of Ideological and Political Education in the New Era.

II. Main Topics

  1. Research on General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important expositions on ideological and political work.
  2. State governance and the innovative development of ideological and political education in the New Era.
  3. Public crisis governance and the innovative development of ideological and political education.
  4. Innovative development of the fundamental theories of ideological and political education in the New Era.
  5. Innovative development of modes and methods of ideological and political education in the New Era.
  6. Innovative development of online ideological and political education in the New Era.
  7. Innovative development of ideological and political education in ethnic minority areas in the New Era.
  8. Innovative development of the construction of ideological and political theory courses in the New Era.

III. Conference Time Mid-to-late August 2020. The specific dates will be determined based on the status of COVID-19 prevention and control.

IV. Conference Location Lanzhou University, Lanzhou City.

V. Mode of Participation

  1. Participation is based on the submission of papers. Experts and scholars are invited to write papers centered on the conference theme and topics. Paper requirements are as follows: (1) Guided by Marxism, with a clear theme, reflecting academic rigor and innovation; (2) An abstract (approx. 400 words), keywords (3–5), author biography (name, gender, affiliation, title, position), and detailed contact information (address, telephone, email) must be attached before the main text; (3) The main text should follow the submission style of Marxism Studies (Makesizhuyi yanjiu); (4) The length should be approximately 10,000 words, with standardized citations and accurate quotations.
  2. Conference papers should be sent in Word document format to the conference email: mksxy@lzu.edu.cn. The filename should be "Name + Paper Title." The submission deadline is July 20, 2020.
  3. The organizing committee will issue official invitations to authors of selected papers. After the conference, the 10th volume of the collected papers, Essays in the Study of Ideological and Political Education (Sixiang zhengzhi jiaoyu yanjiu luncong), will be officially published. Outstanding papers will be recommended for publication in key journals such as Marxism Studies, Ideological Education Research (Sixiang jiaoyu yanjiu), Ideological and Theoretical Education (Sixiang lilun jiaoyu), Studies in Marxist Theory (Makesizhuyi lilun xueke yanjiu), and Ideological and Political Education Research (Sixiang zhengzhi jiaoyu yanjiu).
